Went to Wales over the weekend and was pleasantly suprised by the mpg I acheived. The 120 mile journey there which comprised of 70-85mph on the M54 and 50-60mph through the welsh mountains came up at an astonishing 39.1mpg!!

Cannot fault the the FL2 at any level, tackled all the hills and overtaking manoeuvres with ease! Now - 2017 BMW X3 M Sport Carbon Black

I just came back from a couple of days in Kent. About 100 miles around local attractions and then 100 miles back home on Motorway and A12 and the car is showing 42.7mph average. Yes, I took it easy but I didn't think I would be getting that.

Mine shows just 33.8, and that's a gentle 65mph cruise up and down the M1. Not as good as I was hoping.

Skipton and back at a steady 70 75 up the M1 and back down the M6 and got 34.7 will do for me

Exeter to Milton Keynes using A303 and 75 mph when possible and got 38.5 mpg using Shell Vpower

70 75 cough cough, your were keeping up on the 65, more like 85-90

Looks like I took it too easy!, Got the dreaded performance reduced today with fault P244A, something to do with the PDF so Mr AA man said. Off to dealers on Thursday, not had it a month yet!!

I thought i would see how much i could get out of my sd4 and drove from Eastleigh to heathrow today at a steady 60mph and got 55mpg!!

Couldn't believe it, looks like we all need to slow down to get the best value for money.

seriously as I reported some months ago , if you drive sensibly look ahead,drive to the conditions no heavy breaking or acceleration, it is quite easy to obtain 40+ mpg,
the only thing is do not be fooled by the "on board computer" do a proper check,
tankfull to tankfull divide number of liters by 4.546 to get gallons then mileage by the gallons = mpg
some times on board computer tells heap big lies ..!!!  Wales
Were the mud is thicker, and the ruts are deeper.
(And we have the water to wash it off, and more on the way..! )

Yup I suspect that is one of those. Even so, it is masses more than I am getting driving at 70-80.

I'm in the wrong place and use my Freelander the wrong way to get good mpg. Most of my trips are under ten miles and the first thing I have to do when leaving home with a cold engine is go up a steep hill to get out of our lovely seaside village. Cornwall is beautiful but it's definitely not like Norfolk! Up till about six weeks ago I was getting around 27-28mpg in regular use with just over 30 on longer trips up country. I always brim the tank at fillups and work out the mpg. So far the trip computer seems pretty accurate - if anything it underreads the mpg, unlike my previous 5-series BMW that was regularly 10% optimistic.

Then I put in the TSL oil fortifier advertised by Hess on this site. Subjective thoughts are that the car is quieter, but of course I may be imagining that. However, what I'm NOT imagining is the fact that regular mpg on the last two tankfuls is now just over 30 and I got 33.4 on the trip to the LRE in Honiton last weekend. This was a round trip of just over 200 miles, mainly on dual carriageways but with three separate stationary traffic jams on the A30 and a return trip on the A38 with quite a bit of town and single-carriageway driving. I'm impressed by this.

I don't drive particularly quickly but it is after all a heavy car with four wheel drive and automatic transmission. If I wanted great mpg I'd get a smaller car - but where would I put my golf clubs and how would I tow the caravan? Ours - 2008 Stornoway Grey HSE Auto
