United Kingdom 2013 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Baltic Blue
FR2 versus Jaguar XF

Hmmmm
Anyone else have an XF 2.2 auto. Been to try one today as my FR2 has been the biggest pile of junk and quite impressed with the XF..
My last three Jaguars were perfect and dealers half decent.
I think the XF has the FR2 auto engine fitted & is soooo smooth & pulls really well.? Very Happy

It's the same engine as the Freelander 2/Evoque linked to the 8 speed gearbox used in the Evoque.

Eight speed in the Evoque, I thought it was the same box in the Evoque that is in the Freelander and the eight speed box fitted in the Disco, you live and learn Question

It is the same gearbox in the Evoque and the Freelander, six speed Aisin unit.

I really like the XF and going to visit the factory a few months ago left me very impressed indeed.

The only down sides would be:

1. Having driven a Freelander with the 6 speed 'box and a Disco 4 with the 8 speed unit, there is absolutely no comparison between the two. The only auto I would ever choose would be the 8 speed that, unfortunately, doesn't come with the XF 2.2.

2. RWD and snow! Sad

Having said that, if the choice was between that and the usual German suspects, it would be the XF every time Thumbs Up

I have an 09 plate 3.0D XF.

It's a brilliant car to drive with loads of power and I love it to bits. I can't comment on the 2.2 but I contribute to the Jaguar XF Forum. Members with 2.2s seem more than happy with their cars.
As for the snow, well a set of winter tyres will apparently get the XF most places. I've never had any as we bought the Freelander so the XF stays in the garage when the white stuff arrives. 08 Santorini black HST.

On that basis, there is absolutely no acceptable excuse for anyone ever buying a 520d again....

Probably easier to ask what's been good about it!!
Try a search for posts made by oldgeezer and it'll give you some idea of the pleasure he's (not) had from owning a Freelander 2!!!

With stories like Oldgeezers, I keep wondering when mine's going to start going wrong; 33,500 miles now in just over 10 months and it's still proving to be one of the most reliable cars I've had in 30 years and over a million miles so far....

I'm with you Tigger, 25,000 to date (7 month) and its been fine

Oh..hang on, a door handle cover came adrift..damn thing, windscreen replaced last week but that's not the cars fault.

The Merc before was damn good, although the gbox was constantly being fiddled with, it used to slam into second gear, he heater whined and other annoying bits.

One issue with the heater on the driver's side blowing hot no matter what the setting - fixed with a software re-load inside 20 minutes of arriving at the dealer, at around 10am on a busy Saturday, without even having an appointment! That's all!!
