Which ELM327 OBD reader?

Being the nerdy type, I would like to explore the error codes that might pop up when things go a bit 'off'.
Can anyone recommend a cheap entry level reader? Something that will read and reset the ECU.
Any advice will be appreciated Cheers,
Raz

They don't do much, they read generic codes only and can't reset all faults.

You are better off with a Land Rover specific tool such as as the Faultmate MSV2

Black Box Solutions are not selling the Faultmate MSV2 for the Freelander 2 at the moment due to some issues they have had with it.

The other option is Hawkeye.

Indeed, if you look on their online shop, the Freelander 2 was removed from both lists.
Neither MSV2, nor FCR. Who knows, maybe they are preparing something... Very Happy

Chris - your ELM jobbie sounds more like the sort of thing I am after (the Hawkeye is £300!!). Is it a usb / obd module I can plug in my laptop and reset the ecu? Cheers,
Raz

There seems to be quite a few bluetooth ELM 327 modules on eBay - does anyone have any software recommendations for the iphone? Cheers,

After putting a question to an eBay supplier, I am told that only wifi ELM 327 devices will work with the iphone as the bluetooth software is not available for some reason Confused Cheers,

I use the TORQUE app on my Android Galaxy S2 and a blue tooth OBD2 transmitter from Ebay. Total cost about £30.
Works the family's Matiz, Fabia, BMW and FL2. Has easily paid for itself several times over.

Update: Just got my Chinese ELM WiFi module today and it works really well with my iPhone4. It was a bit fiddly to set up (IP addresses etc) but now connecting using Rev2 and Dash Command, the latter being my preference. It allows me to read / clear any error codes as well as get some nerdy info on some of the engine functions too - all for less than a round of drinks Thumbs Up Cheers,
Raz

But that's about all...
You wont be able to read/erase info/errors about transmission, 4x4 system, ABS, airbags, audio system, etc...
Just the engine, or better said, emission related faults.
And this because, by the rules, any auto manufacturer is obligated to make available any emission related codes to be read by any generic fault code reader. But this is all. Let's hope that in the future this will change.
