Just been reading the latest garbage between Transport minister Justine Greening and our all-loved insurance companies regarding these "spy in the cab" boxes for the masses.
Shes banging on about how they will save the average insured ( especially young people) around 50% in premiums, whereas the insurance companies are stating around 20%.
So whos telling porkies? One the one hand we have a Government minister, and on the other, we have the insurance companies. If anyone here can prove that either one of the above has more credibility/integrity or even morality than the other one, I would be glad ( maybe even astounded) to hear the arguements put forward
But this brings me on to the reason for this post - did I hear somewhere that my FL2 already has something like this on board that LR could access for everyones benefit except the owner (me)?
And if so, what is it, where is it, and how do I disable this unwanted and intrusive thing?

Its in the ECU and not accessible, but could be to your benefit in an accident

my thoughts are the insurance company would also use its data against you,

you might save 20-50% premium but due to the fact the event logger shows you were 1mph above the speed limit and thus driving recklessly when you crashed you are not covered for the repairs to your car

True it could be used both ways. In an accident with no witnesses the other driver could insist you were speeding, but this could prove otherwise (assuming you were not) It could tip the balance of guilt in or out of your favour

Here in Switzerland the insurance company AXA/Winterthur are the only one that fits a "data logger" black box.

It is their own device and is compulsory for their clients under the age of 25yrs. They claim they give you a premium reduction of 25% off when this device is fitted. Drivers over the age of 25yrs can volunteer to have the device fitted (it is done so free of charge) and can potentially benefit for a further premium discount of up to 50%. Again I have no idea if these premium reduction claims are actually met and accurate.

From my own family's vehicle insurance quotations we have found that our existing insurer (Zürich Connect) was more competitive both on price and inclusive coverage.

Says it monitors how various controls and systems were operating at the time, bet it avoids flywheels and clutches though

System report at time of accident:
1: Clutch slipping
2: Rear Dif bearing noisy
3: Parking brake inoperative
4: All windows partially open/closed
5: Seat sunk to floor
6: Rear boot space door inoperative
7: Wheel arch liner edging strip corroded
8: Battery voltage low
9: DPF full
10: Reduced power

Report indicates car being driven correctly and all is within normal operating parameters.
