I have now been told that the revised 2013MY Freelander may well now be called Freelander 3. As there is a complete change of control system (The same BCM as XF, XJ, Disco 4, RR, RRS, Evoque) and a few cosmetic changes LR feel it warrants a new 'name'.

Just like the Disco in 2009, minor exterior changes but a lot of under the skin changes warranted a name change to Discovery 4.

The other thing that maybe gives the name away is what JLR are planning in America. The word is that they are looking to launch the 2013MY car as the new mid sized LR3!

Yes the petrol version is coming but as the petrol Evoque has been such a success there is a bit of a shortage of engines at the mo.

Will also see stop/start technology on the diesel autos

I'm surprised they're going to give it the LR3 name in the U.S. They've already used that model name, and quite frankly, it is not held in particularly high regard here due to myriad reliability issues. CAR HISTORY
