Max my epileptic Collie

My collie, a severe epileptic, was not responding to drugs despite being on the human form of a anti-convulsive type.
Today, he was put to sleep.

He was my dearest friend and constant companion; we were together 24 hours a day. So sad considering he was just three years old and had been suffering from this awful condition for over 12 months.
He was as daft and soft as me; we got on well!
I shall miss him dreadfully.

The photo below might explain why he was loved by everyone he came into contact with.

Noooo!!!

So, so sorry to hear this Sad

I don't know what to say, other than I've been there and you have our deepest sympathies.

One thing I do know is that you gave him every opportunity and (on the basis that collies seem to simply crave human company and activity) I'm sure that you gave him the very best life possible Thumbs Up

So sorry to hear that. I'm sitting with Rigby, my 14 year old lab at my feet. 6 weeks ago we lost his brother Boss to an immune system disease, we still have a big hole in the house and our hearts. Every time I've lost a dog I say never again, but you know what ? people like us were put on this planet to look after them and soon the sorrow will go and the good bits remain 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Greg

Im sorry to hear the news about Max Sad

I really hope you will be looking on the bright side, remembering the fond memories and putting the heart ache to one side, deep down you have made the hardest choice today and in time you be able to sit, with a drink in hand and smile contently knowing he is running free, chasing balls and everything else he loved doing together with his master

Sleep well Max, you obviously will not be forgotten

So sad to hear this. The only thing that made me feel a tad better each time is that you know in your heart that they had the best home possible being with you.

Greg so sorry to hear your sad news, no words will take the pain away but have a read of this and think of your mate Max Thumbs Up

Just this side of heaven is a place called the Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to the Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.

The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head. You look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together…

Firstly, I'd like to thank you all for your kind words and those of you that PM'd me.

I read the post from Toeknee and had to go outside as it was so emotional.
Maybe those that do believe have the right idea, it's something to look forward to. So thanks Tony.
I'd also like to thank Mighty Mildred, who despite her own problems, has been supportive to us throught Maxs' illness.

I have Max's sister, but she's so different, a matter of fact working dog whereas Max just loved people. Both dogs came the pub with me and every time a car pulled up, Max would run outside to greet them. A real gent with great manners.

Thanks to you all Thumbs Up Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Hey Greg

I can only say that I think I know how you must be feeling. We have a lovely rescue greyhound Molly and I know that, when she goes, there will be a big hole in our life, where once there was a happy, funny dawg! My missus wasn't initially keen on getting a dog (now 7 years ago) but now she wouldn't be without Molly...

...so I'm so sorry that you've lost Max, however, as others have said, it's clear you gave Max the best possible life and your last decision for him was done with love ... and he looks such a sweetheart! ...

Be true to yourself. That way happiness lies...

I'm sorry to hear your news, its always really tough and making that decision is an horrendous experience. When our dog finally had to be put to sleep I couldn't do it on my own & had to wait for my wife to return from work to company me to the vets ! Its hard & words cant make it any easier but for those of us that have had pets know the feeling and 3 years is very young.
We still miss her every day as she was an excellent companion but just have to think of the great times we had & it was better to of had than not had at all.
I wish you well
