De-Badgeing and Number Plates

Having read a recent thread on this topic and being fed up with trying to clean round "Freealander 2 HSE TD4" I decided to de-badge the tailgate. Also I don't like the dull grey lettering anyway. At the same time I decided to add some bling in the form of a chrome arse piece (thanks Razman!). Before you ask, no I am neither a pimp or a drug dealer....I just happen to like black and chrome Very Happy....each to their own. I just need to source a black/silver badge to replace the green/gold. Anyway despite what others may say, I think the old girl scrubs up OK.

You may notice in the pic below that the number plate is not straight. This is because it fell off when I was in hospital a couple of weeks ago (long story) and the present Mrs T had to stick it back on to come and get me and didn't quite get it right (you need to remember that I am a touch OCD). I will re-fix it but the question is how? The tailgate surface is not flat enough for all the sticky pads to make good contact. I don't like drilling plates and bolting them on despite the fact there are threaded holes in the tailgate partly because the holes will not be in a sensible place relative to the numbering. So I was wondering if anyone has used a mounting plate which bolts to the tailgate and then you sticky pad the plate to it. Any suggestions? (Please keep it clean!)

'powerful uk' do some chrome plate surrounds which may help, (not sure how they work), me Id prefer a wonky plate to a chromed one, and as for your new shiney bum, dont get me started Whistle

My rear plate, which is the larger size than yours by the way, is stuck on with 4 sticky pads 100mm long x 30mm wide, stuck on vertically at equal positions across the back of the plate, its never shifted.

Right....looks like a new "big" plate then.

I checked out the Powerful UK option thanks CG but there were issues around the fixing screw points. John

Big plate and sticky pads - borrow some of mrs t'a furniture polish and spray lashings onto the old sticky pads - this will dissolve the adhesive. You can then use a bit of t cut and some fairy to make sure the surface is clean and flat before sticking the new plate on Thumbs Up Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints

Should definitely be a big plate. It's a Rover tradition. From memory, Halfrauds do several varieties of sticky pad, some of which are designed to compensate for a curved surface - worth asking at their number-plate desk.
