Sinking Seat

I have had my SD 4 GS for two weeks now. My previous 08 GS was an enjoyable car the only main problem being the drivers seat kept sinking that was eventually fixed by LR fitting a new electric seat. When I bought the new SD 4 I did ask if the seat problem had been sorted and was told yes it is a new seat!!!
Well something is not right as my new one is dropping similar to the old one. I have told the dealer and they were genuinely surprised as according to them there was a problem with earlier Freelander 2's but they had no issues for some time, unfortunately they do now!!
I cannot believe that for the second time in 4 year I have such a fault, I think that there must be other freelanders out there with the same fault maybe it is because I like the seat as high as possible and have a habit of checking that it is at the top that I find that it has sunk.
Well the car is due in the dealers in a couple of weeks time so that they can confirm that it is dropping and I suppose that I will have a few weeks of back and forward until eventually Land Rover accept that there is a problem and come up with a solution. I am a bit concerned that the electric seat that they fitted to my previous FRL was very basic and I actually lost the ability to adjust the lumbar support at the back so I do not think that this will be acceptable this time round.
This situation has really spoiled what should be an enjoyable experience and has made me question my confidence in LR, sorry to have rabbited on but I am sure you can understand how frustrated and annoyed I am Fuji White GS 12 privacy glass leather retrim

My seat (manual) sinks, each time I get in/out I must press the lever as I slide over it.
I can drive at the lowest position and often do, occasionally pump it up a couple of times just to change position and alleviate aches.
Not the best design but not the end of the world.

yep... without a doubt as you get in & out, you will depress the lever & lower the seat... ...

Be true to yourself. That way happiness lies...

In my opinion the idea that I hit the lever when I get out is not the reason for the sinking as surely the seat would only need one pump to get it back to the top and not the five plus that it takes after a night in the garage.
It is a little reassuring to hear that there are other owners in the same boat however I cannot understand why after four years Land Rover have not reacted and introduced a permanent fix? I agree that this is not a massive problem but nevertheless it is a problem and after spending near 29k it is not one that should be happening Fuji White GS 12 privacy glass leather retrim

Its a work in progress but its thin poly board from hobbycraft cut to the correct shape and stuck in with velcro.

Works really well not had a problem since !

I am pleased that there are other drivers with the same problem but why not everyone it is obviously a fault that LR have had for a number of years but they are like the ostrich with its head in the sand I am not happy and want some answers as to why they have done nothing. You spend a lot of cash and expect a quality product not a one that has had a fault for nearly four years that they have ignored Fuji White GS 12 privacy glass leather retrim

Probably because once they admit theres a design fault thats causing most people a problem they are more or less committed to doing all the cars out there for free, bit like the clutches and DMF, theres not a problem with the clutch, its the drivers using it, Rolling Eyes

My SD4 HSE has the full leccy seats and they are rock solid, don't move anywhere unless you press the buttons. Must be an issue with the spring/ratchet on the manual adjusters. This will be a generic part, used by loads of other manufacturers (I bet LR seats are made by Johnson Controls, who make seats for most other UK manufacturers) so won't be a LR only problem. The driver's seat in my 56 reg Cooper S has a similar adjuster, but at the front right hand corner. It tends to drop a little, but then at 6'2" I always drop it to lowest anyway.

Had the same problem on my previous 08 GS which did drop as I got in and out, but it would go all the way down over about a month. Dealer said it was due to me keeping the seat at a high level, so i wedged the lever and it still dropped. Went back to dealer who agreed to replace the manual seat base with another one and that solved the problem.
