Thanks Andy. I am just being realistic re the holiday planning. Health comes first. I cannot go in to details but I anticipate some further issues and an element of recovery post op (or ops). I will be very surprised if SWMBO is fully up and running by the end of the summer hols. As such we will be faced with a "closing window" of opportunity. I expect 2013 will be more realistic. NB. Well, it would be a shame if you guys cant get over here until 2013, but my offer stands strong. Even if I am only half your age, I wont have a problem exposing you guys to a fairly decent cultural hotpot before you guys hit Norway in both Malmö and Copenhagen (15 mins away by train!).

On a side note, if it will be 2013, then perhaps you guys would have the chance to plan in a few extra days and drive over Jontunheimen. There you will find the most breath-taking roads, surrounded by the most majestic blue rivers and lochs, and not to forget the glaciers of course!. Take the boy with you and send him down the bobseld run at lillehammer.. he will be talking about it for months afterwards (I normally scream like a girl on the way down).

I could seriously talk about Norway for hours non stop, I have only been up there in my defender, this year will be in a freely, and I promise, I will be driving past all the flashy hotels, checking into a small log cabin by a loch for half the price, open a beer and watch the dolphins swim by. Utter bliss.

The nice thing about being in your sixties is that you can tell those in their forties how much it will hurt them in their sixties if they keep doing it. Then, laughing when they tell you to off -knowing you're right from painful experience. However, being in your sixties beats the alternative.

I have resurrected this thread from 2012 as we have a ferry booked 8th July for another try. This time we travel DFDS Harwich to Esjberg, then cross Denmark to Copenhagen via the Storebaelt toll bridge and then to Sweden via the Oresund (aka "The Bridge") crossing. Then travel up the west coast via Malmo, Goteborg to the Norway border.

I am looking for any recommended sites for night stops en route, to include a site for a few days or so within easy reach of Copenhagen. In Oslo we will likely stay at Bogstad Camping, to the north of the city.

The car has been serviced by Duckworths, caravan serviced by Grantham Caravans. Caravan Club Red Pennant travel cover is in place - nearly ready to go!
