2009 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Zermatt Silver
3 year old FL2 XS - Valuations

Standard spec, VG condition, just got 1st MOT, full history.

Valued at 14,750 as PX on a RRS
Webuyanycar 13,000

Opinions? Is this what you all would expect?

I'm quite surprised @ ~50% depreciation after 3 years. Clearly Landrover's star is in the ascent. New: Freelander2 GS 62 plate (MY13) - Santorini Black with Clearview & Front PDC
Old: Freelander2 XS 09 Plate - Zermatt Silver with ST3 remap (eco map), Garmin 1490T Sat Nav, Rear Seat Entertainment kit

Just shy of 20 k trade in against a new one ,mine was 3 months short of 3 years old.

seems you need to sharpen your haggling skills, or get a tight welsh mate on a free weekend away, to go with you .!!(scots are nay to bad at the haggling bit either ..!) Wales

Same model, just over 4 years old, condition average, needed 2 new tyres, windscreen chipped, 68K miles, grumbling rear axle and service due. £12k + £2k of the list price for a new one. Prog rock is cool! Smile

Trade in value looks about right for this time of year as you've the winter price premium is over for the year now - you'd get more selling it privately circa £17K which is the true value for a calculation on depreciation. Taking the easy route as we almost all do by trading in when we buy a new one means you'll get much less as dealer will be looking to make a minimum of £3k on the buy price off you - a dealer would have it on the forecourt for around £18.5K with 12 months LR warranty.

So if you paid list for it new it would have been around £26K less £17K sale value means adepreciation of £9k over 3 years. Therefore at the end of 3 years the car has retained 65% of its value.

Got to say though if depreciation is a worry for you is RRS the right vehicle for you as I'd have thought RRS lose more in the same period.

Only once did I get more on trading a car in than I paid for it what a fluke that was with timing - buy in summer sell in winter with a LR!

Jeez Landy...3k a year not bad? I must be a tightwad who lives in an alternative universe Smile ik a year depreciation makes me wince, but maybe that's because I buy cars "nearly new"and keep them a long time ...and look after them! My last truck (TD5 defender 90) I bought for 13k and sold 10years later for 5k. John

You loose 2k as soon as it leaves the showroom!

My 2007 110 xs I paid £28,880, brand new, sold it two years later with 0ver 90,000 on the clock for £18500. That's a lot more, but still not that bad I don't think. For two years hardcore everyday use! The tax man gave me lots of money back on it!

Very true...that's one reason I don't buy brand new! I don't get money back from the taxman as I have to use my own money to buy cars Sad John

Indeed I think that is quite good.

cars depreciate which shouldn't be a shock to people - the older they are and the more miles on the clock the less they are worth. New cars generally don't increase too much year on year so the older cars have to fall in line. The good news is FL2s have some good residuals in comparison to many - especially if you sell when it's snowing!
