Hi all, I am new to the forum as I'm just about to purchase a 2007 Freelander 2 XS.
I haven't owned a LR before and am just wondering whether there are any known issues with this model that I should be aware of before handing over my money.

I have noticed some pretty scary stuff on websites about unreliability and things doing bang and am starting to get a bit concerned that I may be doing the wrong thing in buying it.

It has only done 30,000 and has a FSH so that makes me feel a bit safer, although I am not buying it from a main dealer.

I'd appreciate anyone's advices because I'd rather lose my deposit at this stage than be storing up trouble for myself.

Im so hoping you will all tell me I am being paranoid about this as I love the car and it's got the HST kit on it and everything!!!!!

Hi JT, thanks for your reply, that's exactly what I was hoping to hear. I'm quite excited about getting the car I must say and it did seem to be a bit of a bargain taking into consideration mileage etc.

The only thing it's missing is the centre armrests but I'm in the process of trying to source one of those at the mo then it's all systems go

As is common with virtually all Forums, you only get to hear about the problems; try viewing the Forums for any other manufacturer and it will be exactly the same.

My only direct experience has been with my current July 2011 Freelander 2, which will overtake the mileage on your prospective purchase within around 10 days! The only fault that I've had was when the heater stuck on on the driver's side when it was around 5 days old. It was fixed within about 20 minutes of calling into my nearest Land Rover dealer by a software refresh downloaded from a laptop

Even after having done nearly 29,000 miles, in less than 9 months, I absolutely love mine and hope that yours turns out to be just as good.

Apart from a minor 'niggly' problem, mine has been fault free for the 16,000 miles I have done. It is no better nor worse than any other car for reliability issues and some members have clocked many thousands of miles with no problems whatsoever, but we hear of all things that go wrong and admittedly these things can be expensive when that happens.
You will read on here about clutches failing but so does VW, Kia, Skoda, Ford etc. Don't be put off by what you read, it is just accentuated by people looking for help and to do what we do best, have a good moan. 99% of owners of any brand don't frequent forums so the picture you get is a little obscure.

We even have a thread on here somewhere about paranoia, some of us are beginning to hear noises that may or may not be there so perhaps we aren't the right ones to ask after all.

Buy it and enjoy it, and cross your fingers.

no issues on my 07 SE @56K. Great car

check the bdy kit is firmly in place before you collect, they are a bit prone to falling of due to been glued on, depends really on who stuck it on and how they did it. At work

I have had a 57 plate XS for about 14 months that had 28k on the clock when I bought it. I have been delighted with the car. Check for steering pump whine and obviously that everything works and no warning lights. I bought from a non-LR dealer who threw in a warranty to clinch the sale. Every time I drive it, it puts a smile on my face. As already said, these forums tend to attract issues so it is easy to be scared s less by what are normal failures.

I think it is worth pointing out that 'this forum' also discusses a lot of issues which are 'far removed' from being problems or complaints

I joined this forum when my car was perfect. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

So was mine until everyone started posting about bearings. Now mine has been repaired I just drive along with my fingers in my ears singing la la la la I am not listening to the bearings.

I bought my 2007 TD4 XS about 18 month ago with 67,000 on the clock and the only problem I have had to date is a HDC warning coming up which I believe is the battery needs renewing ( I do a lot of short stopping and starting journeys so I believe it's probabily something to do with that as my Dads has a Disco and his is exactly the same ) and the other "problem" is the "T" came off the TD4 when washing it so needed sticking back on. Part from that its all good.

My Freelander came with the armrests fitted, I have found however that I always have the drivers one up and lean over and use the passanger armrest as when its down you can't change gear. It could be worth getting a central armrest rather than the two seperate ones.

Part from that i'd reccomend buying one.

Well, today was the day I picked up my FL2 and I have to say I love it. So far, since 3pm, Ive managed to clock up 100 miles and the garage was only 35 miles away!
Been hairing round Mid Sussex like a lunatic.
I know this isn't the forum to ask on but the only thing I have noticed is a very slight, and I do mean slight, hissing/squeeking noise coming from the power steering. It's hardly there at all really and sounds more like a mouse stuck somewhere.
The thing is though, is this normal for the car? or is something wrong?
It also seems to be more on a left turn rather than right.
If I put it on full lock in either direction there is a definately hissing sound, like air escaping, but again, only slight really.
Please please tell me it's ok!!!!!!

Its ok! I think, mine does that and i have just had a full new system, its the pressure in the pipes/pump i guess
