is it possible to open the knee airbag compartment?
of course otherwise than crashing the car Rolling with laughter

I would think so, carefully, like you can remove the steering wheel one, but why open it? to check its there?
Sounds a bit like opening the vault to check your money is still there.

It's the driver knee compartment which I'm talking about (LHD) and I want to open it in order to check the connectors cause I get an error (something like bolster b0004-13)

Sorry, I forgot...
From what I remember, the whole panel that contains the knee airbag has a couple of screws in the lower part and another couple near the steering column, column that must be fully raised in order to access them.
The rest is clipped into place. It should be easy to remove.
