Will LR OEM towbar Electrics work without programming

Hi all.

Will a LR oem towbar electrical pack work without programming at the dealers? I understand that the parking sensors etc will continue to behave as normal but should the vehicle put the correct outputs to the relative pins on the towing socket or does the programming magically let power to the towbar ecu?

Any help would be apreciated as I need to tow tomorrow and I've got no trailer lights!!

You should have lights ok, the programming is just a bit of fine tuning, it consists of,
A. The Trailer indicator warning light in the display is enabled.
B. The rear Fogs will be disabled on the towcar.
C. The reversing sensors will be disabled.

It has been said though that the Freely's with an Auto Box, when the 12n plug is inserted it will put the vehicle in to sort of Sport Mode Question

I think that is just about it, I'm sure if I've missed anything some one will add to it.

I have checked the voltage from the pins. Ignition on gives me about 4 volts on all pins Except earth). Doesn't make any difference if the pin is supposed to be live with 12v i.e lights or indicators. Checked with a meter but appears to be no short circuits anywhere. I have been told that the 4v is need to give feedback to the ECU but this could be total rubbish.

Hi I have just fitted the dedicated 13pin wiring harness from PFJones, cost about £150. It stated on the ad that it would not work without programming. However after fitting, all the lights on the caravan/ect work fine, the dash trailer light works and even the car fog light gets cancelled when the caravan one is on. In fact the only thing that is not right is the rear sensors still activate, but i can live with that using the dash button.
Also my local LR specialist only wanted £30 to program but i wont bother just for the sensors.
It was also a complete doddle to fit, just plug into the csr hsrness and plug in a couple of new fuses into the original fuse box.

I had the official JLR wiring harness fitted when I got a towbar. The only difference I noticed was that the reversing sensors were active even with something attached. I got it 'coded for towing' at may last service FoC and that was all it needed. Brian

Do not let C G know about the 12n plug mod, or he will be selling the RRS getting another Freelander and buying a caravan, just to go faster !!! Wales
