Towbars, sensors and roof rack stuff.

Hi all,

Picking up a used Freelander 2 tomorrow which has what looks like an un-used towbar attached to it. I think the previous owner bought it just in case, but didn't do anything with it.

Now, I believe it is a factory fit one. If it is, do you know if the parking sensors are adjusted at the factory to take the towbar into consideration?

Does anyone know how I can check if it was a factory fitted on or an aftermarket/fitted later one?

Also, from reading previous posts, I guess if every i decide to attach something, i can press the P button on the dash to avoid a constant beep Wink

If I decide to go the route of shoving stuff on the top instead, what rails/rack/setups do people use here on this forum, and are you happy with them?

Cheers,
Mike

Hi, towbars are not my thing but there is a guy on here called ' Chicken George ' who will offer lots of advice in that area Rolling with laughter Also, lots of previous threads too.

As far as up top, I put bikes up there and use the Thule Slidebars which are fantastic for that job IMHO.

thanks pedro..

I did a search, but most results with towbar and sensors were talking about diabling it, and didn't spot one about adjustment.

Cheers,
Mike

it wouldn't be factory fit, but fit by the supplying dealer

It should flash a green trailer when connected up to the [insert what your towing] and using the indicators, also you don't get the beep beep beep when indicating with LR OEM fitment

It should also disable the sensors on the rear if LR

Obviously aftermarket stuff might be able to do this too

Thanks npinks, so I guess it would be fair to presume that the LR dealer doesn't adjust the parking sensor to take into consideration the extra sticking out bit.

I thought one of the dealers told me that people often had them factory fitted to keep the cost down, as it cost more to do them afterwards due to playing around with the wiring. So are you saying that if you bought a new FL2, they would still fit the towbar at the dealer and not the factory? Crikey..

i have my towbars done by the dealer, the distance the sensors pick up at doesn't seem to have changed, when i reverse into my drive the car is just as close on continuous tone to the fence with or without a towbar

the OEM electrics are plug and play, with a connector there waiting, (i think) with the requirement of an update for the sensors etc

Correct, the dealer would fit the tow bar, as part of the PDI, all the holes in the chassis are there waiting, you could DIY it if you have the know how

Hi Ooma,

just had a towbar retro fitted (not LR), with dedicated electrics. Mine does cut out the rear sensors and fogs with a 'van on the hook, and the hook symbol on the dash winks when signalling. Caravanners get hooked

Whistling diff-good name for a Country & Western band. Surely this cannot be with such quality machinery?

On the other hand, I could fill a few pages with the problems I had with a Vogue SE. It certainly was classic! Caravanners get hooked
