I think they all have them now to meet the Euro regs.
It's all a scam to reap the rewards of steep excise, it's not long ago we were promised cheap times as we could run the engine from the contents of a well wrung kebab, with DPF, only expensive fuel and mega miles will work?

New car develoment is too fast now; it doesn't allow enough time for proving/reliabilty testing.
But the bean counters and marketing don't give a .

There used to be a time where if you got a bad name for reliabilty, no one bought your cars. Remember Lancia rust?

Having lived in a house on the side of a busy main road for most of the first 30 years of my life (and with diesel vehicles sales so much higher than they ever used to be) I'm actually pretty happy to see ever tighter emission regulations on new cars, especially those relating to diesel cars.

They're clearly not perfect but, on balance, I'm glad DPF's are fitted.

I'm familiar with Dual Mass Flywheels, after one failed on a new R53 Cooper S I had after only a couple of thousand miles. It was replaced with a modifield version under warranty and it never went wrong again.

I've been looking at a lot of sites that offer to remove DPF's which claim that it is completely legal to do so. However, while removal of catalytic converters became an MOT failure in January, I'm not sure if a DPF is considered to be a catalytic converter or not.

I personally cannot see that removing a DPF is legal, after all in this country it is installed to meet emissions standard 5 and as such commands a lower excise tax bracket. If it was removed it would no longer meet the standard and fall to emission 4 with higher CO2 and higher road tax.
The V5 that was issued with the car would state the wrong CO2 and NOx figures, it would basically be wrong and probably void the insurance.

I've nowt against low emissions.
However, friend of mine owns his own Indy garage repair business and he's always up to the neck with DPF problems from all makes.
It shouldn't happen on a scale like this. I very rarley use any fast roads to help with a regen as it's all country/green lane where i live.
