1000 more jobs at LR

BBC News-

Jaguar Land Rover has announced it is creating 1,000 new jobs at its Halewood factory on Merseyside.

The carmaker said it needed more workers in order to meet strong demand for its Range Rover Evoque and its Freelander 2.

"We are moving Halewood to three shifts and 24-hour operation to meet increased global demand," said JLR's human resources director, Des Thurlby.

The new jobs take the workforce at Halewood to almost 4,500.

yes, it's nice to hear news like that in the current climate, quite a contrast to the vauxhall factory 20 miles away from Halewood that could possibly close.

Maybe JLR will take take those from Ellesmere port if needed, but hopefully it wont come to that and the 1000 jobs will be new ones.

Now that they are running at capacity at Halewood (for the first time since Lord Knows When), perhaps Land Rover could simply take over Ellesmere Port and use it to build more Land Rovers Wink

At the Geneva Motor Show last week the Dr. Speth - JLR boss - gave a press conference and whilst he did not give specific numbers he did mention "expansion" in the UK workforce, and specifically emphasised (this sounded very strange coming from a German whose accent is dreadful on my ear when speaking in English) JLR's commitment to its British origins and brand design.

Ralf went on to re state JLR's position of 40 new cars within the next 5 years. Now we've had 3 of those: Evoke Hard Top + Evoke No Top and the Jaguar Sportsbrake. (I'm seriously interested in that model if it is released in a 4 wheel drive R version)

He also stated that new production facilities are coming on stream in India, China and BRAZIL.

If only JLR's Swiss distributor could make decisions, supply parts, and reach business goals as fast as Dr.Speth's own global ambitions.

This is great news for Halewood. I have friends who work there who report there's a real buzz about the place. ...

Had to call the LR Assist guy out yesterday (low battery triggered other psuedo engine faults) and he mentioned the 1000 new jobs at Halewood and the fact that it was or would be working 22 hour days. He also mentioned that LR & Jaguar had 17 new or facelifts due in next 2 years. In respect to Evoque trims and what have you finding there way into FL2, he suggested it was unlikely as LR were trying to keep Land Rover and Range Rover as two distinct brands. RR upmarket and LR as workhorse market.
On development, he suggested that as FL2 had increased power from 158BHP to 190Bhp with SD4 there was still room for more development and refinement to come - hopefully on the economy front. Certainly the Disco 4 with 3 litre TDV6 he was driving still had plenty to go it appears beyond the twin sequential turbos etc.
Probably the best 30 minutes of my day yesterday in terms of finding out what's what at LR & Jaguar. Also got a good description of what caused the whines, buzzes and other noises heard when and after you switch off the vehicle.
Any body not know of the "deep sleep" mode the FL2 will enter after two and a half weeks of non use which knocks out the key fob unlock function?.
If they are not already members of this forum perhaps we ought to encourage LR assist guys to join Very Happy

I suppose if you put it in the garage and didn't lock the doors - it would go into "deep sleep" with the doors unlocked.

Was it stated how to "wake it up"? put the fob in perhaps Confused or disconnect and reconnect the battery Crying or Very sad 2002 Honda VFR800

Hi again - the solution it appears to wake up is to unlock car using key in front passenger door and then insert fob as normal into dash. Its the fob insertion that appears to be the "awakener".

Any body volunteer to test this out?
