Entering german/austrian/czech addresses on sat nav

Good morning. We are off on a three week European tour in the FL2 in May taking in Belgium; Germany; Czech Republic; Austria; Switzerland; Liechtenstein & France - looking forward to that but am wondering about the following...

I know I have a Europe Disc and I have to load it into the box under drivers seat, however I am at a loss as to what happens next....

Is there a different alphabet on the Europe disc to allow for some of the unusual letters they have in the Czech, German & Austrian alphabets?

HAs anyone used the system there with a British LR?

Sorry if this has been covered before but I tried searching and nothing came up
Cheers

I can't help you I'm afraid but it is an interesting question I would like the answer to Thumbs Up

I have just assumed like an atlas that the English translation would be used, but now I just don't know.

i believe you need to then edit the country details on the satnav as it will be set to the uk, so swap it to say france

then enter the address as normal

I think, i have ventured abroad in mine

The answer I would assume be pertinent to any SatNav, so when you change country does the keyboard change characters to suit the countries language. Question

Sorry SD4Cat, I'm asking your questions for you Smile

been out to the car to have a look

enter the satnav destination button, change the search area to chosen country, I chose france

You still get the keys House, street, town

I chose Morzine
Street Could be entered "Rue du Bouge" or "bouge" and this would bring up the same results

Select from the 3 routes and it still took into account I was in Leeds, told me i had not enough fuel to get there

and i feel like popping home and collecting my snowboard and not aborting the road trip now Big Cry

So you dont have to input the special characters that come with some of the names like

Svêtla nad Sàzavou Question from the keyboard like this town in Czech Republic, just use the standard English a and e.

Greetings SD4Cat
You're going to do all that in 3 weeks - tell me: When are going to stop and eat, sleep and pooh? Rolling Eyes

But seriously, as other replies have alluded to there is no problem entering a "foreign" address etc so long as yiou have a disc inserted into your Sat Nav that's for the country in which you are searching a location.

I'd recommend you have a play with the system first. On a 4k road trip to Spain a couple of years back my dear Lady (very high IQ) did some navigation with the Sat Nav and all went well. A few months later on a trip into Italy every time she put in a new search for a hotel in the approaching city it directed her there alright, but, only via Spain Rolling with laughter

She'd simply forgotten to delete one of her saved Spanish "VIA" points Thud

Finally, if you need any information on CH or FL - just ask. Happy to oblige.

Thanks E Yorkshire - I think entering a French address was a cop out as there are no odd characters in the address he entered! I don't think I could even reproduce those Czech names on this keyboard let alone the Sat nav one!

On top of all that, I have 2 Europe discs - one with far more countries than the other but some appear on both- weird they couldn't just stick it all on one. What do I know....I'm only an Essex girl

didn't check that, but just have gone out again

I found you could enter it either way, if you want to enter a letter with a squiggle you press the "more" button and it will give you the options available Thumbs Up

Thanks Athelstan

When you say have a play can i do that in the UK with Europe disc...won't it get confused as it won't know where I am (or am I being stupid?) Embarassed

As for stopping to sleep, eat & other things - thats for wimps....
No seriously we have a lot of different places we're staying. We have not been able to fit everywhere we want in - e.g. Salzburg is a no as the Dalai Lama is there when we want to be and the hotel rooms are exorbitant.

We are doing Germany from Koblenz South & East in more depth than anywhere - somethig to do with wine & Munich beer I believe & castles, mountains ...
We plan to do another 3 week trip in a year or so, to see Switzerland Italy and Southern France properly. This year we are just skirting the edge of Zurich on our way from Innsbruck via Liechtenstein to Mulhouse. My partner wants to go to the huge Bugatti museum there. What do I know....I'm only an Essex girl

Remember to buy your Swiss motorway vignette. It is CHF40 and will last you until the 31st Dec 2013 - buy it at the Swiss Customs Border Post or any Swiss Post Office. If you are caught using a Swiss motorway without one the fine is CHF120 plus the CHF40 for the vignette - that's a total of approximately GBP£115 penalty Whistle

Thank you I had no idea I needed such a thing. As I am driving from liechtenstein into Switzerland will there be a stop on the motorway where I can purchase this vignette without having to head off motorway? What do I know....I'm only an Essex girl
