England 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Santorini Black

I have an 07 SE manual. Its a load of old rubbish but the gearbox, although clonky, seems to work. I have Warranty Direct cover. Although it covers the majority of the problems regularly listed on here, I have just noticed that they have recently re-written the policy document to exclude DMF damaged by clutch friction plates!! I have had to claim once - so far - and was reimbursed within 10 days.

No

NO definately not! That seems like a panic reaction to a few serious problems by a very few people on here. All the rest of 07/57 FL2s are probably just fine!! Razz Life is not a dress rehearsal!

"toeknee"]07 HSE - just under 80,0000

Toeknee. If that's the right number of noughts, 800000, that's one hell of a mileage in just 3 years!
That's 266k per annum Bow down

And to cap the lot, I have just swapped in my 07 FL2 with 108,000 miles on it (all by me) with absolutely no clutch or gearbox problems at all.
Observing other people drive, I think that most problems will be driver use related - for instance, the amount of wear some people put on a clutch by holding the car on hills on the clutch instead of brakes is frightening. Or even just resting their foot on the clutch pedal all of the time. Unfortunately, you don`t know what the previous driver was like in most cases.
On a similar thought, a 2 year old car with, say 50,000 miles on has probably had a much easier life, mechanically, than a similar age car with 10,000 miles on it. The high mileage one has probably done long motorway runs, everything gets nicely warmed up and all in top gear, relatively few, if any, gear changes per mile. Whereas the one with low miles has had a much harder mechanical life, probably all around town, short runs in traffic, with lots of clutch and gear work! Don`t drive faster than your angel can fly!

I agree with the above, my mother for example treats clutches terribly. She uses the clutch to regulate her speed, driving along with the clutch slipping Rolling Eyes she will not be told, and guess what the clutch on her yaris failed ( a common fault with Yaris as it happens. oddly her previous polo stood up to the punishment.

Another big no is holding the clutch down when stopped, always selected neutral and get off the clutch.

My fl2's clutch was fine after 3.5 years/33,000 miles, despite a few times getting a little warm off-road, especially in the special stage at keilder, where lesser mortals totally fried the odd clutch or two.

people who park their cars in tight spaces possibly have more clutch trouble too. intricate manoeuvres wear the clutch more .

And the old chestnut of tasks like reverse parking such a thing as a caravan,do that without riding the clutch if you can. At work
At home

I don't think it's fair to say that all low mileage cars are worse than high mileage in relation to clutch wear.

I've only put about 1,000 miles on in the 4.5 months i have had the car but that's because i don't use it much but when i do, it's motorway miles mainly Smile 59 TD4e XS in galway green

I’m surprised you’ve managed to put 1,000 miles on it Annie. Judging by the amount of modifications you do you must spend more time underneath it than driving it. Whistle Thumbs Up

Hi Annie,
I would not presume to be so rude. Have you replaced the badge that normally says “GS” or “XS” with Annie, as I’m sure Land Rover would not recognise it as one of theirs?

It's in a lot better state now than when i got it from Crpstones. It had the contents of a field underneath it. It was in a terrible state. The springs underneath were caked with mud and there was mud up inside the body beyond the arches. It went back twice for a clean underneath. Minging and that's from a Land Rover dealer.

It's having a machine polish on Saturday Smile 59 TD4e XS in galway green
