Creaking gear lever

Hi
I have a manual with 5 K miles, the gear lever is now creaking when moving it forward and back. Have taken off the silver cover / sound proofing and sprayed a load of silicone lubricant around all the mechanism, to no avail. See from an earlier post that a new bush on the bottom of the gear lever in the remote box maybe required. Has anyone any experience / tips relating to this problem. Looks like I am going to have to return it to the dealer for its 1st warranty issue, as the creaking is getting annoying.

Emily has just started this annoying habit at 7k but only on her off days. I wondered if it was wet related. Bit moist out & about in Worcs at the moment.
Agroman, pls let us know the dealer fix if there is one. cheers still pining for my 3dr, no removeable hardtop, no drop glass tailgate, no roof rack, no pockets everywhere to stow all that man kit

Dealer lubicated linkage. Apparently there is a nylon bush at the bottom of the lever in the casing that can fuse with its casing, causing the creaking. The noise has gone after lubrication. However there is now vibration on lever whilst under load in 4th or 6th also gear change is a little 'notchy' I think. Its in for 15K service next week, so will see what they can sort then. 1998 Feelander XDI Hardback - Gone

Creaking gear lever was sorted by dealer lubication, however 5K miles late the gear lever started to give vibration when under load in 4th or 6th. Dealer replaced whole remote box at 1st service. Now on 20K, gear change is a lot slicker than with previous box, but there is still some degree of vibration when under load in 4th. Its liveable with but still not right. 1998 Feelander XDI Hardback - Gone

Had a 57-reg 12000 mile courtesy FL2 from the stealers last week and the gearstick creaked whenever you moved it - VERY ANNOYING, glad I was able to take it back and get my own back at the end of the day!

CG, there was a post by Andy P (just after one of yours) which read:

At the rear of the gaiter, push it downwards and you will feel the edge of the plastic surround through the gaiter.
Now just pull straight up, and the plastic surround will come away from the push fit retaining clips. You'll then be able to work the surround backwards away from the dashboard.

You can disconnect the terrain control cable at this point to give you better access.

If this does not work or you break it please refer back to AndyP as I am just the middle man and accept no liability for loss damage or the entire credit crisis!

Good luck

Just hook your fingers under the silver trim at the rear of the gaitor and pull upwardsly

here is a blurred close up of the springy clip you have to pull out of its socket

and under the sound deadening quilt thingy (visible in the first pic) you have the gear linkage

I will probably use a thin paint brush to apply some lithium grease to the moving parts unless somebody knows better?

by the way the linkage parts have 'made in Germany' written on them which should be good news Thumbs Up

And if you are doing this to someone else's FL2 it would be an ideal time to leave the chiming parts from a musical birthday card hidden away Laughing At work

Hi,

I had that problem at around 8k miles - dealer said known issue - had car for around 1 hour for 'lubrication' - gear shift is fine. Now done 19k miles and gear shift much improved. Take it in and get them to fix it.
