Time to change from winter tyres?

Well the recent weather is quite mild, temps are around 7-9c and even saw a 12 last weekend.

Currently have Pirelli Scorpian Snow & Ice, But here's the question.....Is it worth changing tyres? or is it ok to keep running the winters? Reading around the net, opinions are very mixed.

The answer to your question depends how good we all are at predicting the great British climate. The Met Office reckon they need a squillion quid for a new computer to do it.

Yes, the temperatures are warming up so change your tyres............and it will snow next week Twisted Evil

We have had snow in May before now. John

I have just changed back to Summer tyres, but that is because the car is sold and going at the weekend. The difference from 70 to 60 profile is dramatic! - so much more road noise.
In a normal year though, I would leave them on longer - I`m sure that we will see more cold weather this winter, and the confidence that winter tyres give you is remarkable, even just on wet roads - I have read that on a cold wet road they can halve the stopping distance, and that fact alone makes it worth keeping them on for a while longer.
And you may have seen 10 to 12 degrees as a daily maximum temperature, but my journeys are usually first thing in a morning or in an evening, when it is a lot cooler, and definitely into Winter tyre temps.
My cousin lives in the Alps and they will leave winter tyres on well into April or even May, just in case. And when the winter tyres are due to be replaced, they run them through the summer to get best use out of them, and save the wear on summer tyres, putting on new winter tyres ready for 1st November. Don`t drive faster than your angel can fly!

FYI - Tyre manufacturers recommend to fit winter tyres when there is an 'R' in the month.

Just swapped mine back (Wintracs to GG ATs) at the weekend - otherwise it would have been another month until I had time so went for it - trusting that the worst of the winter weather has passed.

They wil want you to use them for at least eight months as they have a softer compound so they wear quicker, also to get more sales as it is not easy to get them in anything but sets of four.

I have seen no benefit of winter tyres this winter! Bit of a waste of money IMHO
