If either of these had a premium badge, more people would praise the car but there are many who can't see past the badge.

My mate took me for a spin in his Octavia VRS today, it's a Petrol 2.0 Turbo FSI and it's very quick indeed. Not as fast on paper as Focus ST etc but it is more civilised when cruising along at 70. He is planning on having the engine re-mapped which should take it up to 240bhp. They seem to be very affordable to buy as well and more economical than the usual hot hatches.

Not that I encourage racing but I did laugh when he told me about a guy in a BMW 320d M sport who pulled alongside at the traffic lights in his superior brand car and smirked thinking I will show the Skoda what power is and of course he ate humble pie after the Skoda made mincemeat of his BMW.

I also notice the new Fabia VRS can do 45mpg and yet manage 0-60 in 7.2 seconds with it's 1.4 Petrol that is both turbocharged and supercharged.

I personally am a big fan of the VRS and should I decide on a change at the end of my finance deal with LR, I would certainly consider one. Probably the Octavia which is very spacious and comfortable as well as very quick.

I had the L&K estate and was really impressed. 130bhp, 48ish mpg, 60+ if you took it easy. Well screwed together and far better value than BMW, Audi etc. I probably would have had the 170bhp Yeti if there wasn't such long delivery dates.

It's a shame some people don't see beyond the badge.

My other car is an Octavia Estate VRS manual. Bought it two years ago when three years old - now on 48,000 miles and running beautifully. I asked for a trade in price when buying my new Free2 in December 2010 and was quoted a measly £5000. A no brainer to keep it for the daily commute to the station and the occasional long drive at weekends to blow the cobwebs away. Great engine and gearbox. A true Q car that is terrific value and Skoda constantly have good deals on offer. Only small frustration is a lip in the loading bay floor.

a few workmates have Skoda, one has an Octavia VRS estate and all you hear is good comments about these cars.

even the taxi drivers here are changing their Toyota for Skoda !!

A good mate bought one of each for him and his wife, new on 56 plates.
Back then the Fabia was a Diesel.
I have driven both and the Octavia is a fast big old family holdall, the Fabia was a cracker - fast as hell, cruised at a good lick, and returned 55mpg all day long.

The Octavia eats tyres and fuel in comparison - oh and has got his wife totted to 10points on her license !

He has just swapped the Fabia for a new Fabia - the Petrol one you mention. I have not been "out" in it, but sitting in it, it would seem to of grown up (££) a lot.
He says he is loving the Auto, but gave it a thrash in Sport and Sluuuuurp - it started to drink.

If they made an automatic diesel Yeti we wouldn't now have a Freelander! Ours - 2008 Stornoway Grey HSE Auto

My sister has a Yeti and it is an excellent car...
everything about it, from the dealers to how well it's made.

I think the people at Land Rover should buy a Skoda and look
at how well it's made and then hopefully one day all land Rovers
will be made as well.

Yes I'm a big Skoda Fan it's just the design on some vehicles that
I'm not too sure on......

The may be well made but they "look" cheap (interiors) unfortunatly crack that and they would do a lot better mind I smile when people say they have improved, I remember the good old Estelle with rear mounted, aircooled engine a 1.2 I think, it had to compete against the best selling mid-saloon of its generation, the Ford Escort (1.3) and it failed miserably and yet it was just over a second faster to 60mph, had much better mpg and was about 11 mph faster top speed always won its class in the rally championship and yet it didn't sell mind you could never find one without rust on it though.
The build quality of all mass produced cars is questionable although I haven't been in every single car model available I have yet to find one that is any good (quality wise) and while I'm on a rant, wether its a octavia VRS or a fabia VRS it still looks like a octavia or a fabia if you want a sports car, but one thats been designed to be a sports car not some family saloon thats been bastardised, because thats all it will ever look like, all car manufacturers are guilty of this with the probable exception of mazda who actually do have a sports car rant over, my choice would be the one with the best mpg but NOT in the VRS form.

Bet you wouldn't mind if it had a premium badge on the front. I would take one any day over a low level BMW or Audi etc. The superior badge cars get a proper comeuppance at the hands of the VRS.
