Sat Nav zoom function

The map zoom button on the map screen allows you to set a zoom scale but is there any automatic function such as when approaching turns?

When I started the car just now the zoom scale came up at 1 mile and immediately switched to the previously-set ¼ mile.

I can't find anything in the manual or on the web.

Thanks in advance.

Update:-
One use found, zooming when setting a destination to get greater accuracy.

Doesn't the screen split on yours, mine displays the map in the full screen, then when you come to a junction, the screen splits, the left half is the map, the right half gives you the view of the junction and the route through it, similar thing happens on Motorways, the screen splits in to two halves, left split is the map and the right half shows the junctions and services.

Mine only shows the different RH screen when used in "guidance" mode. When on as a scrolling map with no route planned in, its just one moving screen. 2007 TD4 SE Manual Santrini Black

Yes my screen does split when navigating to a junction. I just wondered if the zoom function was supposed to do anything automatically.
