hmmm thats true... I'm guess it's worth a second opinion. The guy I took it to is a LR specialist and is well thought of on this forum. Does the problem sound like it could be a thrust bearing? |

If your thrust bearing is on its way out you will hear a rattling, matalic sound as you press the clutch pedal and then will usualy disappear when released.

If its just the clutch release thrust bearing thats gone then it shouldnt mean a gearbox, you should be ok with that. Thrust bearings are not normally all that expensive, just fitting it is, as the gearbox needs to come out to get at it. |

If it was the clutch release bearing it would do it all the time and affect all gears.I would not drive this car as you could be making things worse. If the syncros or dogs in the gearbox are damaged lots of swarf will be in the gearbox oil.Normally the clutch release bearing can be noisy for thousands of miles and not affect the gearchange except for a noise when you press the clutch to change gear. Got my car back yesterday. I went for a second hand box from a 2009MY with 29k on the clock, rear end shunt - all for a very reasonable £480 delivered. Then new clutch, slave cylinder and fitting to the tune of £750. Not great but could have been worse.
