Dunroof, yeah you're right about the ferry being down to about 90 mins, ive taken it from Oban in the past which was a much longer journey obviously. The whole journey there is a great experience, especially driving through skye towards the ferry port, i would recommend it to anyone. Ive got Uist blood in me so I try and visit every few years, the place is so peaceful and like you said, the fishing is great along with the white beaches. Unfortunately the price of diesel there isn't so attractive! |

Lovely, I spent a couple of weeks travelling through the Hebrides last summer but without the car. Local buses/schoolbuses/minibuses and Up by train inc west highland line and flew from Barra along the coast to Benbecula, then out to Glasgow. Highly recommend it all. Amazing beaches, nice people and even managed to catch a grilse!. Love to go back with the car, perhaps next year......JT Upgraded to an ex demo, 7 mth old, Rimini Red/Ebony Napoli Auto HSE on 28th Jan 2011, added roof rails, mudflaps and side strips.

Dunroof, I am jealous! I took the local minibus along the coast which went through Amhuinnsuidhe archway past the front door and alongside the artificial burn with mini weirs where tweeded ghillies were guiding fishers...... I understand you can hire the castle for 16 for a week for c.£20k...... I fished North Uist for 2 days staying at the Lochmaddy Hotel, I hired a ghillie, Stewart, an ex fireman from Northampton........Lovely guy. Tenet will be along in a minute with his fishy stories...... JT Upgraded to an ex demo, 7 mth old, Rimini Red/Ebony Napoli Auto HSE on 28th Jan 2011, added roof rails, mudflaps and side strips.
