Just another day at the office

Picking up from the comments in the 'SMUG LOOK ON MY FACE' topic, I have completed another day helping out with Peak 4x4 (no flashing lights involved Rolling Eyes )

Yesterday evening as the heavy snow hit hard, idiots who hadn't left the town centres in good time were stuck all over the place and on one hill I had to weave between a van and a Ford Focus that were stuck. I also had to consult the map so I could find a route through a housing estate to evade a blocked main road. Eventually I got to the nurse and took her to Ilkeston Hospital.

Today I had to pick up a nurse from Weston Underwood and we did 2 house calls in Cromford and 3 in Ashbourne. She had to get injections to people suffering from Leukemia, some were in a residential home up a very steep slope covered in untouched snow which I went up without a problem (cue the snow groove Whistle )

Plenty of cars were struggling including a Renault Scenic on a hill near Pentrich. The best bit though was when a Hyundai Tucson tried to follow me up a hill in Ashbourne and failed Laughing Get some 'groovy' tyres and a Land Rover mate.

Please use street view for 'Old Hill, Ashbourne'
. Steeper than it looks on street view and covered with thick snow that only pedestrians had touched. The look on their faces was great as I ploughed up the hill.

A great day overall because I was helping people in need of medical assitance (some terminally ill) and enjoying the snow at the same time. This is the website if anyone in Derbyshire wants to join: http://www.peak4x4response.org/

Here are some pics taken with my iphone 4 (and yes I had stopped the car before taking the photos through the windscreen):

Thanks guys Thumbs Up They were female nurses but no pics i'm afraid WarriorBez.

I would like some more snow soon even though the car is ditched and I don't mind helping at all. Covered 115 miles on those 2 jobs and they were really grateful for the help. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

The local council provide a certain amount of compensation so you record your mileage per job and pass it to the team leaders.

Not sure what it will be as these were my first call outs but you can enquire with the yorkshire 4x4 group assuming it would be them you would join LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

I've also been considering this, where do you stand with insurance? i take it cover will have to be extended to account for this and there is also the risk of loosing your no claims.
Or does the group provide the cover during response?

There is cover as part of a nationwide scheme so providing you inform the team leader/controller when you set off and arrive etc, you are covered. I rang AXA and cos it's voluntary (not hire or reward as they say), they aren't bothered anyway
