Wear on seat covers

I have noticed that on the driver's door side of the seat the fabric is beginning to wear on the edge. It seems to be starting to go "grey" after 25k miles. Is this a common issue and should I be worried or is it simply "normal wear and tear". Has anyone else experience of this? Should I be rushing off and buying LR seat covers to protect the seat before there is a hole in the fabric? Thanks.

Hi GSMY11

I have a GSMY10 which suffered what sounds like the same problem with the cloth seats when the car was about 6 months old. I took it back to the dealers who dealt with it as a warranty issue and ended up fitting a new seat base with firmer side bolsters and seat base cover. So far it appears to be lasting better than the original although i will be keeping an eye on it for the remainder of the warranty. There are several entries on the forum for the same issue and although most do refer to leather seats unfortunately cloth is also affected. i think the key to the problem is the firmness of the seat base as opposed to the quality of the seat cover.

Thanks Snowy, I'll mention it next time I am in dealer and get them to note it and see how it goes during warranty period.

I think the seat bolsters tend to wear more on the FL2 because you put more weight on them when getting in and out of the car due to the higher ride height than an ordinary car say, maybe side steps might help reduce the wear?
But obviously the designers would have thought this matter over and catered for it Rolling Eyes

United Kingdom 2010 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Biscay Blue

I found a small split in the leather squab on my 2010 HSE - Hunters at Derby dealt with it very quickly under warranty and a new seat base cover was fitted. It's as good as new now. Not heard of similar problems with the cloth seats but you should go back to the dealer and report it. 2010 HSE TD4 auto, Biscay Blue, Almond Leather, facelift front and rear, detachable towbar, front & rear mudflaps, bib spoilers, clear high level brake light, smooth rear wiper, colour coded door handles.
