United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Stornoway Grey
One piece at a time...

My Freelander 2 07 SE TD4 Stornoway Grey had just under 30,000 miles on the clock when I bought it from a LR dealer. I was told it had just been serviced & MOT'd etc. It was back within a week to have the steering rack, power steering pump & reservoir replaced. Then the passenger wing mirror motor. Then it developed a whining noise. "Tyre Noise" I was told. Replaced 4 tyres. Whine still there. "Diff" I was told, replaced diff. Whine still there. "Haldex Unit" I was told, replaced Haldex unit. Whine went away. Terrain response switch replaced as message came up "Terrain response not available". 'Reduced Engine Performance' warning came on, replaced battery. Same message again, replaced fuel filter (and light switch in glove compartment which was rattling). Now the message is back...??? I've done less than 7,000 miles since getting it in April 2011.

To sum up, an 07 Freelander 2 with less than 37,000 miles on it, which I've had less than a year, has had the following:
Steering Rack, Power steering pump, power steering fluid reservoir, complete diff, wing mirror motor, 4 tyres, battery, haldex unit, terrain response switch, glove box light switch, fuel filter.
Reduced Engine Performance message now re-appearing...
Dealer recently relocated to new premises miles away.

Just got a letter asking if I want to pay £570 for extended warranty when mine runs out at end of March !!
Big Cry
What would you do?

NO
We'd bury them under an avalanche - then come back in spring and feed the corpse to the goats Mr. Green

Firstly welcome to the freel2 site . Thumbs Up Thumbs Up
Plus also welcome to the world of Land-Rover owner ship !!!
Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Sound like all you need is a new clutch next.

Sorry to hear you have had a BIT of bad luck with your car, I had the same feeling in the first 12 months of owning my FL2 ( It needed almost what yours needed at 28,000 miles , but touch wood it been OK since then and now has almost 50,000 miles on the clock Bow down Bow down )

I must admit most other cars I have had have done 100,000 mile plus before needing any work more then servicing and pads and tires, Bow down Bow down

(What you need is a foot of snow to know why you bought the car, Very Happy )

All the best hope things get better for you very soon. Thumbs Up

Hmmm

Hi Hogan_,

That's a lot of bad luck you've had. Have you had to pay for all of these 'fixes'? How has the dealer been? (ie helpful or dismissive).
I use Pentland too. So far I've had a few minor warranty claims and they've been fine but I guess you just don't know what they're like until something big goes wrong.
Maybe they're trying to recoup the cost of their new showroom? Have you been down to see it yet?

Stuart

So far, because I've had it only had it for less than a year, it's all been done under warranty (except for the £102.00 I was charged to clean the dust off the brake pads when they started squealing Shocked ). Pentland have been helpful and not dismissive at all, but there comes a point when it's beyond a joke and even the most polite and helpful service just isn't enough if the problems keep on happening Sad

They just moved there on Monday 23rd, so haven't seen it yet... however the latest 'Reduced Engine Performance' message means I've booked it in for a week on Tuesday, so I'll see it then.

My wife said she's surprised they told me where they were moving to. Laughing

Pentland

Hi Hogan_,

I'm glad to hear Pentland have been helpful but I know what you mean about enough is enough.
I used to use a BMW dealer called Dunedin (Seafield Road in Edinburgh) who later became Peter Vardy.
They were a brilliant dealer. Always helpful, friendly and quick to sort out any problems whith whatever car I had
at the time. However, I made the biggest mistake of my life car wise when I bought a new Mini Cooper S (turbo version) from them. The dealer was great but the car was junk. It was never out of the garage it seemed. Despite them trying their best to fix all the problems, after a year and a bit of ownership I did end up throwing they keys at them and having a meltdown in the showroom. There's only so much you can take in the end.

As for the new showroom, it's very impressive. Hopefully your latest problem will be your last one.

Stuart
