Rubber mats a warning

Driving in the loan car and I planted my foot to overtake a bus on a dual carrage way

Only to be met with a car still accelerating when I came off the gas Shocked

It was due to the rubber mat not using the retaining hook and had slipped foward an it was holding the pedle down till I slipped it backwards

This could have ended a lot differently if it wasn't clear in front of me Evil or Very Mad

So make sure your using the hooks to prevent mat slipping Thumbs Up Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Sounds like a nasty experience. As you rightly point out, the hook is there (on the drivers side at least) to stop the mat slipping forward and should always be in place. I have obtained some spare hooks to use on the passenger side and rear mats as these also slip around - not fitted these yet as there is no actual hole in the mat but shouldn't be too much of a problem. At least keeping the mats in place helps keep the almond carpet clean! 2010 HSE TD4 auto, Biscay Blue, Almond Leather, facelift front and rear, detachable towbar, front & rear mudflaps, bib spoilers, clear high level brake light, smooth rear wiper, colour coded door handles.

i'll mention it to the garage when i eventually collect my car and let them know,

its a brand new car with only 500 or so miles on it, so its either sloppy PDI or lazy staff, either way i was in a situation were it could have been avoided. Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

of course they may just say you shouldn't have been accelerating that hard in the first place - why did you press the peddle to the floor Rolling with laughter 2002 Honda VFR800

If you could get the fob out you may have a bigger problem with the steering lock! Surprised John

As per previous two posts...

Touch brake it kills the throttle, one reason I believe there is a pause when you come off the brake and try to accelerate, some describe this as hesitation, a bit of practice, come off the brake early and acceleration is more responsive, also found this to be the case in the Merc.

When travelling along, a quick jab of the Stop/Start does nothing, I imagine to prevent an accidental stop, press and hold for a second or more and the engine will die. Thumbs Up
