New Towbar fitted

Just had new Thule Towbar fitted and Rightconnections dedicated 13 pin electrics. This is a new style and mine is the 4th Freelander 2 to be fitted with them. Had it fitted at Gentow in Telford. The electrics fold underneath so hardly anything can be seen when not connected. It looks much better then my photos show. Gentow are great very professional. Price was £438 this also included coding of the car for towing. They have special offer on, so also got free Reich nose weight gauge.

That looks neat and tidy Thumbs Up

One question though, were they have cut the bumper, the edage itself is that sealed at all? I would be wary of leaving it like that in case the paint started to flake. Obviously, with being plastic, corrosion won't be an issue but flaking of the paint maybe? It would be a shame if that happened.

Maybe others have experience of such things and will come along with advice

I will paint some clear lacquer on the edge of the cuts when it is not raining. I have had plastic bumers cut before with no issues.

The Thule one is the same as the LR one Question

Slimshooter, Sorry to pee on your parade but it will come back to haunt you having that Thule/Brink/LR Towbar, it will develop play in the receiver if you pull anything more than a light garden trailer, I have just received my fourth tow ball and reciever in three years two weeks ago, they kept me waiting as they were waiting for new stock to come in, sadly it is the same design as the last one according to the numbers stamped on the ball, I won't need another, as soon as the better weather comes the Thule/Brink/LR bar is to be replaced.

I haven't used mine yet but will be towing a 15ft caravan so hopefully it will be ok. Never had problems in the past with detachable towbars so we will have to see. 2010 HSE TD4 auto, Biscay Blue, Almond Leather, facelift front and rear, detachable towbar, front & rear mudflaps, bib spoilers, clear high level brake light, smooth rear wiper, colour coded door handles.

On the flat bit on the very top of the ball are the numbers, if it is 311 it is the original design, 215 is the latest one that I have, my last 215 has only been used for 8 months and has play and the new one that I received two weeks ago is also 215 Evil or Very Mad

Pulling 1500kg on a Al-ko hitch at 85kg and towed for 1500 miles approx.
EY, looked at the. Witter bar but it looks a very similar receiver and ball to the Brink one, tend to think the Westfalia one couyld be what goes on, PF Jones will supply a Swan Neck Detachable for under £200 delivered.

The old bar with new ball and receiver can go on the bay.

Good working practice when cutting holes in something is to radius the corners, as vibration in use can cause cracks to form from the corner if its sharp, remember the old Mondeo's with the flapping back bumpers where the plastic had torn in use?

probably due to two things:-

1. The jerkiness of the FL2's auto box Laughing

2. Because you insist on towing 1500 kg of caravan Rolling Eyes

Dont tow anything at all and your towball will last much much longer Thumbs Up At work
At home
