Air con compressor

Had a new air con compressor fitted. I'm out of warrany by six months so had to shell out 500 quid Big Cry

Not sure if this is 'known' problem Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Ouch Censored
Out of interest, did you leave it running all the time or turn it off?

I left it on all the time. Always thought it wise to do so.

Can't tell if the aircon is working yet as the outside temp is so low. Can't see any condensation dripping under the car. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

I have always left it on too, don't think it's common for the compressor to go though, has it been re charged at all over the years, a pressure drop may be like turning it off? Causing problems with seals maybe.

Looks like I have got this all wrong. I thought that when you had the climate control on "Auto" the aircon pump would only cut in when needed i.e. not likely in winter. Have I been labouring under a misapprehension? John

Yes had mine replaced under warranty "just" reported the problem at the last service before the warranty ran out, they couln't find anything wrong with it until I had a test drive with them and pointed out the noise. It was like a faint metalic sound that got increased and decreased as the engine rev'd. End result had it replaced but took a couple of months as they were on back order at the time

No problems since then Thumbs Up

I've had the pressure checked several times just to prevent problems and it's been fine.
I noticed the compressor was leaking last week Evil or Very Mad Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

aircon compressor will only run when called for, controlled by a temp sensor in climate control area, there is a magnetic clutch in the compressor that starts/stops it. the drive pulley spins all the time as it is part of the drive belt circuit.

set the dash switch to off or eco and it will never run, set it to auto and it will cut in and out when needed At work

Cant get the mag clutch to pull in at all, and the PWM controlled condensor fan isn't spinning.
Maybe the ambient temp is to low. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Got the cabin nice and warm then turned the heater temp down to the blue. Condensor fan then kicked in.

Spoke to L/R and despite my vehicle being 7 months out of warranty, L/R are giving me 33% towards the cost. Thumbs Up
