That has got to be a good deal.

As my family have left home for pastures new we had a water meter installed and it has reduced our bill by two thirds of the fixed water rate.

Also have friends who still have chidren at home (hotel of Mum and Dad) who still have made a wothwhile saving by having a water meter fitted.

By the way the water company fit it for free. (the only thing United Utilies do nor rip you off for)

I have offset the carbon of my Freely by installing (10) solar (PV) panels on my roof.

At 43.3p per Kwh and 3.1p for every Kwh I export.

Since October last year the panels have produced 371Kwh.

what's the carbon footprint of building and transporting said panels, not to mention maintaince and eventual disposal.

I gave solar panels some thought but discounted them on a number of grounds.

A family of 4 would need to install panels generating about 6 Kwh, this would require about 30sqm of visible roof space. The cost of installation would be of the order of £10-12k.

As CG says the payback would take some considerable years AND the panels only have a limited life span of about 20years. In addition their efficiency falls away with time starting from day 1.

Their visual impact, like wind turbines, is an assault to my eyes. Local authorities seem to be tripping over themselves to prove how green they are and are granting permissions in the most inappropriate locations.

We need more nuclear sites and we need to start building NOW.

Indium in solar panels is rare and expensive and the cost to get it from china, one of the least green country's in the world is not Eco friendly one bit! Plus it will eventually run out in 5 years or so, so how on earth is that green or gonna be carbon neutral?? It's never gonna be!! Humans can never ever be carbon neutral even when your dead you will still be producing gases

The whole wind farm/solar panal argument is flawed in terms of CO2 for the reasons metioned above, plus as one doesnt work at night and the other when there is no wind you have to keep power stations running on tickover in order to bridge the gap.
