I have decided to do the same myself and today did a deal on a new Scirocco. Loved the FL2 but not getting the use out of it, decided to go back to something sporty and more economical (Blue motion TDI). Plan to get winter tyres to keep bases covered. Thanks for all the laughs while reading the banter, stands backs and waits for comments regarding Scirocco

Shame the FL2 has gone but you should see a difference in mpg (I'm getting 70mpg motorway in my Golf Bluemotion).
All the reports say a 2 wheel drive car with 4 winter tyres is far superior than a '4x4 soft roader' CRV/Xtrail et al...so down your neck of the woods in winter you'll 'probably' be OK (Probably = A blame get out clause )

What caravan?? This is a caravan free zone Used to live near Skipton until last year so I know what winters can be like. We shall see, it was either that or an Evoque.......

I can't see myself going back to a saloon type car.
I sold my Xtype jag that i had from new (it was 2 years old) to buy the FL and i much prefer the FL.
It has more extras on it than my Jag did too. I didnt have satnav, electric heated seats or bluetooth on the Jag.

Jag got more looks though but i dont mind. I love my FL. 59 TD4e XS in galway green

Like you I will never go back to an ordinary sized car, we have a BMW 320d at work and after I've fallen into the seat that's flush with the floor, I have the same problem climbing out while hitting my head on the door opening .......... or is it my age that's causing all this

No it's not your age 'cos i was doing just the same before i got old ! and i still do the same today now i am old (-er),

I've still got to say there is only one thing that steers nicer than a decent rear wheel drive car and thats got 2 wheels. I had a 320d touring prior to my current FL2. Couldn't wait to get rid of it. The better fuel consumption (4mpg better like-for-like) was the only thing in its favour IMHO.

Sorry but when I went to school 52 (E46 320D) - 33 (FL2 TD4 auto) = 19 and not 4 !!
I considered long and hard, over 6 months, about getting rid of my BMW but I just could not bring myself to do it. The service I have had from my local BMW dealer far surpasses what I had from my LR dealer when I had my RR classic. Also, my BMW has, touch wood, been ultra reliable. The BMW is very much a ' drivers ' car whereas the FL2, IMHO, is not. The FL2 undoubtedly has strengths in other areas and that it why I bought one and, as I said, now that I own both, I have a couple of fantastic cars.

Can't blame anyone for thinking about the fuel economy with the present cost of fuel.

But.......

it's a bit late when you (or a family member) is in hospital after some g*t runs into your pride and joy on the motorway.

For me the Freelander is an insurance policy that I can trust (unlike the one written by underwriters), I'll keep paying he £140+ a week fuel bill just in case I need the very substantial shell to protect me.
Yes we were on our third FL when I made the first "claim" recently, but boy did she do me proud. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
