It's 08. Six months out of warranty.
Never had a vehicle this troublesome.
It's at the dealer now, new compressor and regas tomorrow.
That wont be cheap!!

The more you use your car, the more risk of futher damage if it is the power steering pump.
And it could be dangerous.
I got away without having all that work that BartonF has had done simly because i stopped using the car as soon as i heard the whine.

It's been doing it for a few months now. I cant afford to just have it done because its making a noise, it's still working at the end of the day! I will wait for it just to go bang then set fire to it!

Mine has started doing it too. I was also wondering about Bala mud in the alternator. Dealer said they had heard a bit of a whine on service, but didn't think it warranted investigation - now I can hear it too. Needs a bit of attention methinks, but if it is the alternator or steering at least I've got extended warranty.
I'll get my hearing aid out...

Mine is all sorted now. But I did have to have new pulleys as the old ones were full of Bala mud

Mine had the same noises spotted at the last service. Done 80K and had noticed an increasing whine, rev related. Thought it was a turbo whine. Dealer was very good and had the steering pump and rack replaced under warranty. All sorted now, back to normal, was in dealer for 4 days to get fixed and had a nice loan 2012 XS to play with for the time. ______________________
