Sat Nav Auto Dimming - A bit random

Anyone else have trouble with the auto dimming on the brightness of the sat nav screen? Most of the time mine works fine, but then sometimes it randomly seems to auto dim it to a level you can hardly see the screen.

I cannot figure out what causes this. It normally happens during the day, but other than that there appears no common factors. The solution is to switch off the auto dimming and manually adjust it so that I can see the screen again Usually switching it back on again when it is dark outside because I've got the screen too bright for night time driving!! '09 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto

I have the same problem with mine. You would expect the auto dimming to activate when the headlights go on but it doesn't seem to work that way. Will be interested to hear what other forum members thoughts are.... I also noticed this I think. I put it down to the auto lights coming on even though its quite bright, but switching them off didnt improve it.

Is there a brightness setting somewhere in the sat nav? Confused

Mine has gone dim on occasions and then come back to normal after a short while, I put it down to cold weather and worked normally when the car interior warmed but could be wrong and just random. Gone, 2007 TD4 SE Auto Baltic blue, clear side repeaters, full sized alloy spare.

There is a brightness setting for the sat nav - if you go into settings (I think) you should be able to find a brightness 'slider' control. There is also the 'auto-dimming' on/off button within settings somewhere but as already mentioned this seems to have a mind of its own!

Sorry cant be more precise about the location of the controls but my partner is out in the car at the moment so cant have a look. 2010 HSE TD4 auto, Biscay Blue, Almond Leather, facelift front and rear, detachable towbar, front & rear mudflaps, bib spoilers, clear high level brake light, smooth rear wiper, colour coded door handles.

My Sat Nav screen is very dim on cold mornings but after 5 minutes is back to "normal". I mentioned it early on to the dealer who`s solution was simply turning the brightness up to full so that it was too dazzling at night! I gave up at that point and just live with it. Don`t drive faster than your angel can fly!

LCD screens are poor in very cold conditions, they will be dim and slow to repond, oncw heated up they behave normally, or should do.

I noticed that this week as well.

Just turned the auto dim to "off" & screen was readible again.

Turned it back on later in the day & has been fine since.

thanks everyone on the replies. Seems a standard issue.

I end up switching to manual brightness when it decides to be dim although I still haven't figured out the pattern of when and why it occurs. The next day I then switch back to auto dimming and all is fine.

Quirks of a landrover. I can leave with it, unlike the parking sensors which are driving me insane this time of year Very Happy '09 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto
