Agreed about the sound though. The last petrol car I had was a Fiesta ST, lovely sounding 2.0 engine with induction kit fitted to enhance it further. To get back to the original thread, it's really not good enough from L/R or any other VM to get away with what is a basic design error. I've been driving for 40 years and never worn out a clutch until the DMF failed in my FL2. It fine for 'the Doctor' to take the view that he'll get it replaced under warranty.
But he's rather missing the point methinks.

Who pays the silly money to fix this problem once the car is out of warranty? We do. And it's not on. I don't think that the clutch/DMF is 'fit for the purpose for which it's intended'. Clutches/DMF's failing after 20k or so (as mine did) is not on..
The dealerships will make a killing out this.
Think all manual owners on this forum who have/are having clutch problems should get together to become one voice. Whether it will get us anywhere i don't know, but L/R are getting away with it as far i'm concerned and they b y well should foot the bill Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

I just hope THE DOCTOR, is not keeping his car over 3 years, or if he is he has deep pocket's approx every 25,000 miles.

Type 'Peugot 4007 clutch slip' into google and you'll realise the scale of the problem.
Sod the dealers, they'll fob you off with any crap once it's out of warranty, it's their job to do so and protect the brand.

I noticed that Pug were taken to court over the clutch/DMF issue.............. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

The problems are mounting for diesel vehicles:

1. Expensive fuel
2. Clutch/DMF problems
3. DPF problems
4. Expensive service charges

So unless you are a very high mileage driver do you really need diesel as a fuel.

Perhaps the FL3 will be more aerodynamic with a petrol engine option similar to VW Tiguan. Their 2 litre TSI has good all round performance and economy figures - shame it is so ugly. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

In all seriousness it is true that LR should do something about it. I have a 4 year GMFV plan which means after 3 years I either shell out for another years warranty or gamble.

I do not find it too bad to be honest.
Although it is not used every day at present, done around 13k miles in two years in that time the worst is low 20's the best is 35mpg on a really long run. Over christmas went to Dorset and we got between 25 & 29mpg over 460miles. Does twice the miles of my last V8 on a gallon of juice so that makes it easier to swallow.

But we are supposed to be on about clutches etc!!

It does seem that these clucthes and duel mass flywheels are failing way to early but then if your out of warranty you dont have to take it to landrover.
There are many good small garages out there who will do the work for up to half what LR want to take from you.
I guess it comes down to how much you love your FL2

Doesn't make it right that we have to pay for it at all.
It's got nowt to do with how much we like our FL2, it's not our fault that the clutch/DMF has failed and we bloody well shouldn't have to pay for a PSA cock-up. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Some good suggestions about collating the failures. How about a sticky where we can post our details?

I rang my dealer today to check how long the clutch and DMF were warranted for? Until the 3 year warranty runs out! That’s September 2012. Not pleased.

Next question – how much for a 4th year warranty? £500 without assistance or £800 with.

A new clutch is £187 and a new DMF is £400. At this rate another 20k miles would take me into year 5 so a warranty extension is no piece of mind.

I’ll keep the £800 and when the clutch fails again I’ll go to my local Land Rover specialist and that should cover it. Hopefully, as with transits and other PSA units an after market fix will be available.

Just out of interest I rang the helpline for a group insurance scheme that I pay into. The advisor I spoke to said that if within 6 years of the car being new there was sufficient proof that the car was not fit for purpose then they would consider taking up a claim against Land Rover on my behalf. I have previously used the legal cover insurance to replace a duff D1 that I had from new with another new D1 which was fine. A Land Rover owner since 1988

From a 1974 series III to a 12MY XS FL2 with help of a 1995 D1, 1996 D1, 2005 D3, 2007 D3 and a 2009 FL2.

If L/R arn't interseted after warranty runs out, i don't see there is anything to lose.
Particulary if we join forces with other forums who have the same large scale problem with the PSA clutch. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.
