Hi,

Has anyone fitted a HeatShot/Alphatherm to their Freelander2?

I had one on my Freelander1 and can't really see where to mount it on the 2.

? why fit a washer heater mine washers were perfect through 2010 winter just put more concentrate in with less water  rainy-city

Because hot water (even in summer) together with the detergent inside the windshield fluid helps cleaning more quicky and efficiently all (greasy and dirty) things on your windshied. (You do dishes with hot water, isn't it?)
I've seen its efficiency on my friend's Patrol.

yes but i dont eat my food of the windscreen alex, hot water if for hygene when washing up still a but puzzled because its the water that freezes in the nozzel that screenwash is made from if you so if you mix it stronger the less it freezes.  rainy-city

Going a bit off topic because I was trying to find out where to mount one on a F2 not really questioning whether to have one or not or whether they are any good. I have one already and it's been great on the F1.

I tend to shower, bath, wash clothes, do the washing up, wash my car etc all in hot water because it works better than cold so there is no reason why cleaning a windscreen should be any different. It's not just about stopping having frozen water, although it's typical that I get one and a set of AT tyres and the winter has been very mild so far!

I thought this would promote a bit of a discussion which is always good............

Well, depends on the size of the unit and its install restrictions.
Given the fact that the washer fluid reservoir and windshield washer pump is behind the R/H fender splash shield, in front of the R/H front wheel, then you can follow the route of the hoses up to the dispersing ports/jets and see where the heater could be installed.
An idea could be in the engine bay, between the expansion tank and first firewall, just in front and above the R/H strut upper mount.

Excuse my ignorance, but have you think about what hot or warm fluid can do to your cold or iced Windsceen? I preefer to use a good quality fluid, and when the car is working it will be warm, so it can cleen better the rest of insects, but all the car will be at the same temp. So you only throw warm liuid to the windsceen when it is warm enough. In sumer all the car is burning so i think you won´t need it at all.

Google headshot or alphatherm. It's a nifty device that monitors battery condition and heats a small amount of water to a precise temperature that does not cause any damage.

There is a lot of discussion on the web and YouTube as well.

It's tried and tested and I think it works well although it was only on the F1 for about 6 weeks.

you've hit the nail right on the head Alf, one of our UK plants on Teesside manufactures screen wash for a lot of original equipment car plants, and the percentage of solvent( something like Isopropanol) in the winter dilution is what you need to prevent freezing and it's the surfactant addition is that cleans the dirt , the air chill at 70mph in winter is going to outweigh any benefits of "warm" water, the blue dye is just to let you know the bottle is full We normally blend it with de-ionised water so that less streaking takes place, but of course once you have diluted it from the tap some of that benefit is lost. I certainly wouldn't spray my windscreen with warm/hot water in winter.

I also wash my car with cold water, ie as it comes out the tap.

The temperature is controlled to something like 57 degress which causes no damage to the windscreen.

PS I'm not a salesman and have nothing to do with Heatshot/Alphatherm, just a normal punter who did some research, decided to buy and enjoyed a very clean and quick defrosting windscreen!

^ Warm water will not create a thermal shock to the windscreen, I still warm up the kettle and throw it over the screen in bad frost, have done for years.
