Unfortunately our conifer tree has been blown over today in these gale force winds ripping the roots out of the ground. It was first planted in 1978 when it was under 2 feet tall and at it's demise it was approx 30ft tall.

Our labrador Sheba who died in 1988 had her ashes and favourite toy buried under the tree. The grave stone and part of the buried ball can be seen in the photos. My Uncle and cousin are coming to help clear up the mess on Saturday and I purchased a brand new bow saw today to help cut it up.

The neighbour has helped out already by cutting off the top section that was hanging over onto his side.

Here me thinking my patio heater been blown over was bad enough, well it is a expensive stainless steel one which now has the heat deflector bent at 90degrees and will cost £££ to fix

Well, the home insurance policy will cover the cost of sending some professionals out to clear the mess but there is a £100 excess so me and some family members plus the neighbours working together will suffice.

Some guys who work with my dad have a ford transit pickup so that can be deployed to collect the bits afterwards. (Although my neighbour has hinted he could use it on his fire. Sabotage? ) LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Tell your neighbour that conifer wood is high in resin and will produce an oily substance in the flue, it tends to 'spit' a lot as well and needs complete drying before use.

It's always sad to see trees over I think. A few big old ones around here have gone basically because the soil was so waterlogged from all the rain we've been having.
The family who live at the entrance to our wee road had most of his tiles ripped off the last 2 winters. The other day they came off again and trashed his car. Infuriating/depressing.

Here is a pic of the aftermath of today's work using a bow saw and a hatchet. No zoom as it was taken with my iPhone. The bottom section of the tree will require a chainsaw because it is too thick for the other saws we used to cope. Lots of debris to clear up.

Well make sure he also hires all the safety gear

A chainsaw will take seconds to cut through a leg/foot/hand

Tbh not something I would mess with unless fully geared up and safe

Don't worry. He doesn't hire or sell them to people without extra gear and unless they have used them before. He is fully qualified in using them. Using them with one hand or up a ladder even when it's not raining is downright dangerous  LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby
