To be honest it depends how I drive, i.e if I am in a hurry or feeling more relaxed. Going up a hill into my town in 5th at 50 (not sure of the revs) the green up change light suggests it's time for 6th. It doesn't feel right in 6th though.

I test drove one of those green light shifter things totally out of sink! lol And you are right 1st gear is awful lol i sometimes just pull off in second. its almost as if they have shortened the ratios to get the sixth gear but it doing so has made 1st pretty usless. |

I don't think it's out of sync just too obsessed with changing up in a bid to save economy. In theory it is correct but only if you were traveling on a straight flat road. In practice it doesn't take into account corners or gradients which is why driver judgment is better. I just ignore it LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

I guess 1st is pretty low to make up for no "low box" for off roading. John

Maybe first is low to protect the clutch and DMF on start up so they dont start slipping later? |

Mine pulls 30 mph in 4th without problem. If I need to accelerate a bit quicker, I drop it down to 3rd. I usually change up at around 2 - 3000 rpm, unless I'm trundling around town. Peak torque is around 2000rpm, so that's where you should aim to be at a given speed. Poke it, Poke it, make it do it again!!
