Has anyone else experienced slow starting? I have had a new battery fitted as the old was was fooked, but some days it seems to take forever to burst into life. I dont think its the starter motor as that sounds fine and does not struggle, the only other thing i can think of is crap oil or the glow plugs need replacing.

Any ideas?

So are those 'some days' cold days or does it happen above 5 degrees C as well. The glowplugs only come into operation below that temperature.

Yes, but its alot slower than it should be according to the table below, it never use to take this long to start

When you say 'slow starting', is the engine cranking but slow in firing or is there nothing at all (delay) and when it does crank, it starts

Then one suspect would be Fuel filter or pump.

you need to remember the voltage drop & keep mentioning in other posts ! It may be turning over OK but may be no current left to keep glow plugs fired up to max heat etc etc
Having had three years of very poor starting in cold weather I would be inclined to carry out a voltage drop test between the battery post neg and body and engine when cranking using an anolouge volt meter. If its over . 0.3 volts its poor connection. I would also try some injector cleaner , as if they are dirty they may be leaking causing loss of pressure at cranking, causing slow starting.
Comma diesel injector magic from halfords works well. If you can fill the fuel filter up with cleaner when the engines hot, then fire up for 40sec's only. switch off and leave overnite. The cleaner then sits in the injectors overnight helps clean especially if hot.. Fire up and drive with another bottle in the tank

Had this problem on my 2007. Changed the glow plugs and everything was ok. Some of the first models was delivered with a bad patch of glowplugs. FL2, TD4 HSE
