I've seen the future

A friend of mine who seems to have more holidays than Judith Chalmers always asks me to turn over the engine on his car while he is away. This time he is in Australia and I have agreed to do my duty except this time I have to drive the car because it is a bloody hybrid. It’s a Lexus CT200h and it sucks! When you switch on what is laughingly called the engine the dashboard lights up like a Christmas tree and graphics tell you how green you are, but there is no sound. If you rev the engine more graphics appear and Al Gore pops out of the glove box to give you a lecture on the disappearing rainforest. Moving a lever to the side and upwards hopefully puts the car into reverse and is probably displayed somewhere on the graphics of the Starship Enterprise but it could take a while to find it so you spend another 10 minutes finding the handbrake, which happens to be a footbrake and take the chance that it will go backwards and not through his garage door. I’m now moving down the road at slow speed and I still can’t hear the engine which sort of defeats the object of charging his battery when I am just draining it. I put my foot down and after a couple of hours the engine kicks in and the car lurches forward. I’ve now decided that this car is too dangerous to take out on the road because I could not pull away at a junction. If this is the future God help us all. This will be a bland world where forums will discuss how far they can get on 13 amps and people will get silently run over by cars they didn’t hear coming. Make the most of your FL2 and these happy days. Thumbs Up

Can you imagine the future when Essex boy racers meet at a MacDonald’s car park to drag race their hybrids and Top Gear have adventures through the Amazon jungle in the Lexus, it’s going to be a very strange world Laughing

My dads Lexus Rx440h hybrid is a very good car, in terms of reliability, never once has any of the 5 he has owned broken down, his latest did have a rattle but this was investigated straight away and correct with Lexus HQ been involved, not because of a complaint, because their cars don't do this and wanted to see why this did the Complete opposite to LR

Power delivery is smooth, with seamless integration between milk float power and petrol

Shame the looks don't do it for me

I owned a Toyota many years ago and it was a great car. The dealership was also fantastic. Still don’t fancy a future full of hybrids though. Yawn
