Trim Question- SE?

Hi everyone

My wife wrote off our Censored quashqai (dont laugh) so now looking for a real chelsea tractor......

After much debate leading to no conclusion other than that the X5 is a higher insurance gp,
I am hopefully joining your club soon and looking at an FL2- diesel. The one I have seen is manual- am ok with that on budget...my question is that the one i looked at was an SE.......

I had a scooby do on the Land rover website and they dont do this spec/trim anymore...but the SE seems better than the popuar XS.....sat nav and sunroof.....but part leather.

can anyone pls confirm where the SE stood in the range AND why they got rid of it???

and if anyone can reassure me about it being as reliable as an X5 diesel is supposed to be i would appreciate it.

England 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Lux Auto Aintree Green

Hi and welcome, not sure when Land Rover dropped the SE. Think it may have been 2008/09 I've got a 57 SE and at the time starting from the bottom of the range it was S GS XS SE HSE hope this helps.

THANKS hINCHY .. i dont think my seller (pratt) even knew and tried to tell me it was bottom of the range but the prev owner had added "extras" but then realised it was an SE and this was a now defunct (but good)trim.....obv full leather would be beaut but heh cant have everything...taking the week-end to think about it as my heart was set on an X5 for no particular reason other than diesel and german reliability.....bit confused .com

i too have an SE and yes they are a good spec, and my only guess is they dropped the SE and upped the XS because there were too many different specs!

This may help,

If your looking at the HST it is more or less a XS with a body kit

United Kingdom 2010 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Biscay Blue

Hi and welcome. I looked at the SE back in 2008 when I eventually bought an HSE i6 (3.2 litre petrol guzzler!). The SE spec was just below that of the HSE but I cant remember the few differences and, unfortunately, cant find the brochure I had at the time to help further. I know the HSE has armrests and leather and a premium stereo but seem to think there are one or two other extras on the HSE.

Hope you decide to join the clan - you wont be disappointed with the Freelander. Thumbs Up 2010 HSE TD4 auto, Biscay Blue, Almond Leather, facelift front and rear, detachable towbar, front & rear mudflaps, bib spoilers, clear high level brake light, smooth rear wiper, colour coded door handles.

Previous Land Rovers:
2007 Freelander 2 HSE i6 in Stornoway Grey
1991 Discovery 200tdi 3 door in blue

Se was the standard launch specification, discontinued in 2009.
Check parkers.co.uk for spec comparison.

England 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Baltic Blue

The current XS spec (MY11) is virtually the same as the original SE spec. Sat Nav, Part Leather heated seats. electric adjustment on driver and passenger seats, puddle lamps etc. I believe the SE was dropped as it was proving to be the most popular spec and taking too many sales from the HSE. The fact that the current XS is virtually the same as the old SE is testament to it being a good spec.

If I remember correctly, the SE had 17" wheels but, hey, there are plenty of 18" HSE wheels on fleabay! The boot is not very large and with 2 youngsters plus all the kit that goes with them you may find it tight, but take into account the extra height of the boot space........

Just one further suggestion.... if you are not buying from a LR dealer make sure you get a good warranty. Not saying the Freelander is unreliable but like most premium brand motors, if it does go wrong repairs can be expensive. If buying from a LR dealer you should get at least 12 months LR Approved Warranty.

Good luck and keep us informed of your eventual choice Thumbs Up 2010 HSE TD4 auto, Biscay Blue, Almond Leather, facelift front and rear, detachable towbar, front & rear mudflaps, bib spoilers, clear high level brake light, smooth rear wiper, colour coded door handles.

England 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Auto Baltic Blue

Have had both XS & SE and the latter is preferable in my opinion, unlike others I have had no problems with the satnav. Gone, 2007 TD4 SE Auto Baltic blue, clear side repeaters, full sized alloy spare.

English by birth..... Yorkshire by the grace of God.
