Which heat setting is best????

Yesterday on my big drive I had the Air-con set to auto and had the heat dials at 21oC.

Then I was requested to stop the air blowing on my passengers feet (and I had to obey Whistle )

So I pressed the two buttons for 'air up' and 'air forward' - the air started blowing and the car warmed up a lot more.

So why wasn't it as warm when on 'auto'?

I hope this is considered to be a mildly interesting thread to add Whistle 2002 Honda VFR800

I have this problem too, not just on this car, the auto setting is fine for an ambient temperature which is measured at just point on the dash.
Cars are notoriously difficult to heat efficiently.
I tend also to keep to around 21 , any more gets too hot.

As for blowing on feet? In auto mode I rarely get much of an air flow once up to temperature, no draughts anywhere, the air con would have been turned on as defaults to on in auto mode but, I think, not sure though, that it is inactive below certain temperatures.

As for warming up more, yes it will, the temp is read on he dash, sending warm air up heats the higher levels in the cabin and the temp sensor doesn't register the increase until much later, not ideal ad then you turn it down and it cools very quickly, my last car would sit at 22 all day, the Freelander I am constantly tweaking.

yes, I have noticed this as well.

I always left it on the manual settings but decided to use the auto as thought it may be better.

but over the last week changed back to manual as it seems to be a lot better.
