Bad grammar there, athelstan ! Rolling with laughter

I did not make originally an "assertion" in my initial response to garyb (see second posting) I posed a question - quote "How many UK registered cars comply with the many individual national motoring laws of the European states they drive through?" end quote.

>> Isn't your question driven by your own xenophobia. Rule Britannia eh what

Arguably a question, even if no ? - but comes across as an assertion Wink

xenophilia: a liking for things foreign; being attracted to foreigners

I'm sure Harry Potter would agree Wink

Anyway, I'm off out now. Thumbs Up Brian

I'm sure you know your Harry Potter characters and story lines better than I but that does not excuse your false claim re my grammar based upon fiction. I prefer substantive fact.

The word xenophobia is from the Greek, and it is from the Greek language that I quote the opposite: xenophilius. Used as a boy's name to signify one who is open to other cultures and NOT xenophobic.

Athelstan,,

As i have a German wife i can't see how i can be an xenophobia,,it must be a Swiss thing..

xen·o·phoba (z n -f b , z n -). n. A person unduly fearful or contemptuous of that which is foreign, especially of strangers or foreign peoples

All i asked was had anyone else noticed how many

Quote:
euro lorries or car had stick on Beam Bender fitted to there vehicles
and
Quote:
Anyone know if any foreign driver has been fined for not fitting benders

I am not sure how else i could describe drivers from other lands other then foreign maybe i should have said anyone notice cars coming off the ferries at Dover that were not registered in the UK that didn't have beam benders fitted.

i am not sure if you have ever been on a Dover ferry, sound not but there must be around 600 to 1000 cars on board so as you navigate your way to the custom block you have about ten minutes to see a lot of cars both side of you, yes, four lanes of traffic. So we are not talking 20 odd cars and a couple of hand cart car ferries that you have on your Swiss Lakes, that i expect you are more used to seeing.

.

holiday time = good food and plenty of wine = no night time driving = no need for beam benders.

Sadly, no excuse. The Gendarmes insist that our lights are blocked all of the time whilst in their beloved country!

Best bet is just to place a bit of black insulation tape on each light. I don't think you'll be escorted to a testing station for them to be properly examined. Stand to be corrected though.

last time , I drove abroad in my own car not a hire one , it was a xenon lighted Audi, I printed the instructions off regarding the tourist lever, to show to any police.

but the instruction were wrong it needed a dealer to change the settings, but I reckon the police would have been bluffed, without having darkness to see that the beams were wrong At work

Brian you stick to your Harry Potter and Wikipedia and I'll stick to the Greek language. Out of the three only two have a 100% substantive track record.

HP is an acknowledged great work of fictional writing - story telling at its best. Wikipedia founders acknowledged in 2008 that much of it's content was unverified and could not be relied upon, and, they went on to discredit and dismiss seven of their own appointed moderators. As far as I am aware no linguist has challenged the authenticity of the Greek language.

As Junior has already stated I am from Derbyshire, by ancestry from the Pecsaetan Mercian tribe. I have ridden and driven motor vehicles for over 40yrs and during that time have used many of Britain's car ferry ports. The last time I drove through Dover was on the 22nd October following a FreeL2 meet at the Halewood factory.

Clearly some folks need to not only broaden their mind set but also their experiences.

That's the point surely? It's not English. The accepted form in English is xenophilia. Brian

The trouble with quoting Wikipedia is that most of it seems to be B0LLOC0KS, Just like this forum if some one says its true other halfwits believe it. Best to quote The Oxford English dictionary?

Which seems to suggest the opposite of Xenophobe is Xenophile Thumbs Up

Xenophily/ia seemingly is a madeup word in science fiction refering to Humans that F@ck Extraterrestials Shocked
