Question re servicing

A couple of questions:

1.Is it really desirable to go to a franchise dealer network for servicing once the vehicle is 3 plus years old - what are the benefits??

2. Where can I get a check list of requirements for both A and B service.
Hitherto all Stratstones have given me is an invoice together with a "Health Check" listing tyre and brake pad condition.

All previous cars I have owned (VAG) have had a fairly comprehensive list of requirements which are ticked off and form part of the servicing contract. Certainly with Stratstones I only have their word that an undisclosed level of servicing has been done.

A quality independent should be fine, I think LR insist on a paint check in order to keep your and corrosion warranty. many franchise dealers will try hard to keep your business offering such things as free mot's etc etc so not always the worst option.
Also it keeps your face/car known at the dealer, incase you want to trade in.

Or sell it and buy a RRS Thumbs Up no more fl2 service costs for me

yes i would do the same and keep away from the main dealer cos of the cost but if you do use an indi remember they will not be able to put the latest software updates into your cars computer, wich will keep it running in tip top condition, price how much the dealer costs for this is and compare the two also think about supplying your own parts and oil ask for a labour quote they will somtimes price match hope it helps Thumbs Up rainy-city

I beg to differ on one point. My local independent guy has full software capability and will be doing an update on mine. Some do, some don't...just need to ask them. John

Today I rang my LR dealership and asked about any software updates. After a short wait they informed me that I was due an update which is free of charge - I was gobsmacked that ANYTHING with a green oval on it is free! Laughing Cheers,

see i told you if you vehicle is in warranty they cant refuse a software update Whistle what i do doubt is that the indi software update may differ from the genuine one i am not supporting the main dealer as there labour prices are in dick turpin country Sad Sad the way i do mine is i spread the cost look at what i need for my next service approach l /r dealer for price of parts then ask what discount he will give you if the reply is none just say so&so dealer will give me 12percent disc remember ther is at least 50 % mark up on filters as for thre oil why pay 14.00 a ltr when you can shop round for a better deal Mr. Green Mr. Green now for the labour ring round the dealers play one off against the other they will be quite competertive believe me i do this every time i saved approx 120.00 on my service Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter but please dont tell everyone after all we dont want to be a Sheep Sheep rainy-city
