Scotland 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Stornoway Grey

for those that dont have the luxury of a warranty... part number is LR002243

fault is water penetrating into the gear mechanism, corroding it and then it eventually seizes...

cost is around 140 quid Big Cry 07 Fl2 GS
88 Galv chassis Landy 110 double cab

Rear Wiper Failure

Hi, I am new to the forum but already have got lots of very helpful advice.
My rear wiper also seized up after last winters very cold spell, I dismantled mine, cleaned it up filled it with spray grease and away she went. I have photos of how to do this if anyone would like them.

Wiper motor seized, opened up gearbox full of rust - cleaned up greased and got it working - decided to clean motor - not a good idea as when I reassembled the motor it didn't want to spin. To me the part looks identical to a Mk6/7 Fiesta - has anyone tried this swap it's an order of magnitude cheaper.

It is not a difficult job to do, I would expect to be done and dusted in under an hour. Thumbs Up

Easy job, take two screws out of the inner panel handles, rise inner panel off, remove elec connector, remove wiper arm (13mm nut) remove 3 off, 10mm nuts that hold motor on and pull it out of the window grommet. Then on the bench remove the 5 torx screws that hold silver plate on the gear mechanism, it'll be full of crusty old grease, push the shaft out from the outside taking with it the yellow gear and mechanism then it a case of clean it all up, particularly the shaft which will probably be well rusty, clean the elec contacts on the back of the yellow gear, make sure the brass bush on the shaft is ok, then grease it all up and as they say in all the best manuals, assembly is the reverse of disassembly.
There appears to be no seal on the outside end of the shaft where it exits the plastic body, save for a small tapered plastic bush, so, I have installed a small "o" ring under the wiper arm in the hope that it keeps the water out that causes the problem in the first place. Hope that helps.

A wiper motor that can't withstand water! must have been designed by the same person who thought of the chocolate fire guard! Or the same person who recommends V rated tyres on a 4x4 so you can't buy decent A/T tyres for it without going against manufacturers recommendations! Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes
i'll have to look at mine coz it is annoying and as the majority of our weather is rain...!

My rear wiper seized up last week too. After a read through this thread, followed instructions to free it up again and it's back in action again now - thank you!

The most effective fix for the leak is that the rear wiper arm clip-on spindle cap now has a noticeably longer skirt to it, not sure when it was changed but my dealer didn't stock it so I found a suitable replacement in a yard of all places. Avoid aiming a pressure washer at the wiper arm spindle unless you can get hold of the replacement cap which should be a cheap fix and something anybody can do in 30 seconds with no tools needed.

Help needed with rear wiper motor

Had a similar experience to many in that the motor has stopped working. Mechanism rusted. Cleaned and freed mechanism but still not working. Power getting through but there is absolutely no life when switched on. Any ideas before I have to part with a lot of dose for a new one
