Just had a run from Hampshire up to Lancashire in my 07 SE manual. Quite surprised to see average consumption as 42.5 mpg over 255 miles with cruising between 65 and 70 mph (average speed showed as 60mph - mostly motorway). Normally average between 35 and 37 knocking around but about 23-25 with 1550kg trailer! Total mileage now 53k.

Just got back from a trip to Cambridge, mainly motorway driving with cruise control set just under 80 and I was getting 39.6mpg which really surprised me.

The only reason I checked is because I have had a bit of work done recently, new sensors and turbo cleaned out blah blah. Most people would be happy with that but I was more concerned on why I am getting mpg like that cos I never have!

All the maf, map air flow sensors. Then had a company clean my varible vanes on the turbo as they were sticking, they use strong aviation chemicals. Also had to replace the electronic throttle housing as the nylon gears got chewed up. I was doubting the computer so much on the way home I was thinking there could be an issue with the fuel calculating system!

Expensive? Or will you make it back with lower fuel consumption?

So your getting about 7 mpg more than I get, call it 20% improvement. It won't take long to get back your £120 at about £80 for a tankful.
