Anyone know if there is a place down here(Sydney) that I can get the OEM rails for less the $1000?

There a number of places in the UK and US that have them shipped for under $500.

I looked at the Rhinos and Thule after market today, but I don't like the idea of clipping them under the door openings.

Any comments about anything "rackish" would be helpful. Looking to carry a Kayak and a box on the top. Nothing major.

I understand the OEM rails/bars can be noisy. I use low profile Whispbars and kayak brackets. Still some noise but they are fitted and removed easily. No damage to door seals etc to date.

I inherited the original LR rack and bars from the previous owner and I don't find them noisy.

Didn't realise how much they were.

Perhaps ask a Land Rover specialist, by that, I mean not a dealer but an independent LR specialist.
They often get parts shipped in from the UK and could add the racks to their order. It may work out cheaper for you.

I found a location in the UK called Brit-Car that can get me the "OEM rails" for about
$400 AUS and expected delivery in 2 weeks. I was then thinking of getting the Rhino Whisper Crossbars instead of the OEM cross rails.

Anyone have any dealings with Brit-Car? or this set up?

I'm in Brisbane, and am having the same issue Dazza.

Before I bought my FL2 (without roof rails) I drove plenty with the OEM LR ones, and never experienced any noise.

I haven't used Brit-car, but know plenty who have. They're all very happy campers and were pleased with the service. Have a search for them on AULRO.

I can't find the FL2 rails / crossbars on Brit-car's site - can you point me in the right direction. I'd be interested in buying some for delivery before Christmas gets here as well.

I've not dealt with Brit-Car but have heard about them But as knodes said, try AURLO site which has more info about this kind of thing.

Thanks to all posters for the information and links. I have just purchased a new SE and as I already had Prorack aero bars on my old Ford Escape I can use them on the new car, BUT here are two mounting systems. The best one, which also better matches the length of the bars is to use rails but he quote from LR for rails was too dear. I will go with the Brit ones, but am wondering specifically about fitting them. Drilling into a band new car makes me nervous. Is the fit straight forward and are he installation instructions easy to follow?

Did you fit your own rails?

What I would be VERY interested to know, is if the installation is complex/tricky/difficult and if the installation insructions are straight forward, as I said earlier, the thought of stuffing it up (on a shiny new car) makes me a little nervous!

If you follow the fixing kit's instructions it is a straight forward task.

You can do it single handed, but easier if you have a mate with you so that you don't bounce the rails or crossbar on your roof. The whole process will take approximately 90 minutes. You do NOT drill into the FL2's roof skin at all.

Do a search on FL2 and you'll find that I have posted in detail on doing this job as well as silencing the ski rack, and fixing the black plastic roof rail covers in place with silicone to avoid any of them blowing off during travel. New covers cost dearly.
