Rear Diff Fixed Very Happy Thumbs Up

The car was returned today after having the low level repair and a 60K service. The difference is amazing, the car is so quiet now for a big diesel and no additional repairs were required on the 60K service.

The work was carried out by Westover Land Rover in Christchurch, Dorset. I'm pretty happy with the way Westover dealt with the problem and service, they were friendly and picked up the car leaving a nearly new Peugeot 307 whilst they had the Freel2 in for the work. Shame it wasn't a new Freel2 but you can't get everything you wish for!

Looking forward to some hassle free motoring now for a while, fingers crossed Rolling Eyes

Mine went in Monday late PM. The Diff changed yesterday. I called back in at 6pm yesterday to get it back.
It sounds a lot quieter and if I am right in thinking feels a wee bit smoother.
I was not given any paper work with the keys. I asked for some to be sent to me, I was told that it would be ASAP.
Sounds fair enough to me . I will get back with details from the report on what was done to the car.

Frank,

Unless I am missing something your math does not appear to add up to me.
Where does the £222.98 come into the equation?

Sorry Bill I should have dropped the £222.98 down line.. you thoughts on the need for a overhaul rather than a change...

... just had a new diff fitted last week - they stripped the old one and it wasn`t the bearings that can be changed that were the problem - the warranty people wanted to inspect the unit and then said OK, so I`m now back to quiet motoring. So at Four and a Half years and 97,000 miles old I am quite pleased with my value for money extended warranty!!

Just had the same experience with mine (just over 4 years old, bought 18 months ago but I paid £600 to extend the warranty - how lucky was that?!). Have to say, had fantastic service over the whole issue from Ottons (Westover) in Salisbury...diagnosis Monday, booked in for 'Level 1' fix on Thursday but not suitable so replacement diff authority obtained from warranty assessor and new diff fitted on Friday - picked car up at end of Friday. Great work by them and I can't thank them enough - and I have a quiet Freelander again! Hate to think how much it would've cost but I'm assuming a lot more than my warranty extension.

Sorry for quoting my own message!....It's now about 7000 miles since my diff was replaced (completely replaced, not a repair the bearings job)...and the droning noise is back so I guess it's back to the dealer time. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me if there's any other component in the drivetrain which should be checked too? In case there's anything else causing diff problems - or, indeed, if anyone knows if LR has a quality control issue if a new diff is going to show signs of wear/failure at 7000 miles? Thanks! Sad

Not good Big Cry

Is it an auto??

Did I not read that q106 fixes something that can potentially exceed the load ratings on the diff.. If it is an auto - did you ha e the q106 update done at the same time?

Failing that - has it had a bump that could of bent things?

Hope you get it sorted Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints

Thanks for your suggestions and good wishes - no, it's not an auto and, no, it's not had a bump - or been used extensively or hard off road. I would hope alignment of shaft/diff would've been checked on installation?

Just don't want this recurring every few months - esp when the warranty has expired!

Had it checked out today by dealer. Turns out it's a wheel bearing - and is also covered by warranty!

I've had the bearing done and a complete new diff under warranty at 4500 miles. Noise is exactly the same as it was before either of these fixes.
`Dealer said noise is acceptable and they should have charged me for inspecting it again.
I used to think this was a great car. I didn't get where I am today by being sensible!

Try another dealer - not all the same!

I've just done that. They say tyre feathering due to suspension geometry fault. Awaiting LR Customer Service response as new dealer said old one should have checked it and tyre replacement will be down to dealer not LR I didn't get where I am today by being sensible!
