By axle they refer to rigid axles like on Defender, Patrol, Wrangler, etc...

Well, maybe. I am not dissatisfied with the LR2 and I believe it can do some good offroading. Actually, I am thinking more on expeditions than the kind of hard one-day offroad. Thanks Alex for the explanation! I sensed the answer to my question would be a "no", no I also understand the reason . |

I doubt if anyone will ever do a locker for the FL2...which is a shame. I am a big fan of lockers and had them in my Defender for years. You may say the Freelander doesn't need them because of the Terrain Response System and this is an understandable response. However, the ETC systems on modern Land Rovers works by detecting which wheel is spinning and braking that wheel (in crude terms). A locker works by making sure all wheels are driven all the time and hence are a bit more positive. My experience has also shown me that lockers save halfshafts rather than breaking them. The most common cause of halfshalft breakages I have witnessed has been shock loading, that is when the wheel loses grip, spins with the diff action and then suddenly gets grip. The diff action is spinning the wheel madly, the tyre gets grip and stops suddenly....something has to give and it is very often the halfshaft.
