On a slightly different tack.
Last winter LR Experience provided vehicles to some police forces to allow them to deploy officers to remote villages in the snow. Without the assistance of LR Experience and some 4x4 response teams the police would not have been able to provide any service during the bad weather.

Which brings me neatly back to the point of this thread.....our police complain that although they have been given some 4x4 vehicles, the tyres they have are almost exclusively road tyres.... John

Which are exactly the same tyres that LR Experience vehicles run out throughout the year. If LR Experience instructors can cope in the snow with standard road tyres why can't the police?
I know that at least one police force is now sending some of its drivers to LR Experience to train them in off road driving.

Interesting thread... If I lived in the sticks I would be interested in joining a response team, but would not do so on standard M&S tyres. Well done to the Doctor and mates for getting active.... LR Exp cars are booted to make a marketing point, which does not match actual need in extreme conditions.....JT Upgraded to an ex demo, 7 mth old, Rimini Red/Ebony Napoli Auto HSE on 28th Jan 2011, added roof rails, mudflaps and side strips.
Gone - A great 57 Plate, Auto SE, Bought Feb 2009, Roof Rails and Mudflaps added on purchase. Blue colour, anything but drug dealer black.....

Good point. The first thing I did when I got into off-roading many moons ago was book myself onto a training course with David Bowyer. Looking back it was a very smart move which stood me in good stead. In 4x4 Response we do some "refresher" days and recovery technique stuff which is all good fun. I would hasten to add we only recover our own vehicles, recovering random members of the public is fraught with difficulty. John

Near me there is a railway bridge with a dip in the road which when we have heavy rain tends to collect in this dip, this can be quite deep as I have seen a Toyota Yaris in it with just the roof panel showing, the local farmer who I know well once pulled a BMW 3 Series out, but as the car was in the water above the wheels he offered to pull it out with his Massey, as she fluttered her eyes he put a strap around it but caught and cracked part of the bumper as he couldnt see what he had tangled up in as it was submerged, he pulled it out of the dip and the driver then flipped and insisted he pay for the damage, he just undid the strap and let it roll back in and denied ever pulling out Laughing

He's learnt know, if someone pleads with him to pull out their car he says yes, fine, but you attach the strap, he hasn't had to do one since.

Spot on Dunkley.....we cover Somerset, North Somerset (different Local Authority), Dorset, Wiltshire, Bristol and a bit of South Gloucester. Wessex may seem a bit dated to you but you have to remember that we have only just got shoes and electric light down here Laughing John
